What bank does NYS Department of Labor unemployment use for direct deposit?

I'm trying to set up direct deposit for my unemployment benefits and wondering what bank does unemployment use for processing payments? My claim was just approved after weeks of adjudication and I want to make sure I get my payments as fast as possible. Does NYS Department of Labor use a specific bank or can I use any bank for direct deposit? Also do I need to provide a voided check or is routing/account number enough?

NYS Department of Labor doesn't use one specific bank - you can use any bank you want for direct deposit. Just need your routing number and account number from your own bank. I've been getting my payments direct deposited to Chase for months now with no issues.

That's good to know! Do you remember how long it took for the first direct deposit to hit your account?

yeah any bank works but make sure you double check those numbers!! i messed up one digit on my routing number and it delayed my payment by like 2 weeks while they sorted it out

You can use any bank or credit union that accepts ACH transfers. Most people use their regular checking account. When you set it up on the NYS Department of Labor website, you'll enter your bank's routing number and your account number. No voided check needed - just make sure the numbers are exactly right. Usually takes 2-3 business days for direct deposit once your weekly claim is processed.

Wait, I thought I had to mail in a form for direct deposit? Can you really set it up online now?

Yes, you can do it through your my.ny.gov account under payment options. Much faster than mailing forms.

I had trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor to verify my direct deposit setup was correct. Kept getting busy signals for days. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Was able to confirm my banking info was entered right and my next payment should come through direct deposit.

How much does that cost? Seems like something that should be free to check

It was worth it for me since I was stressed about getting my payments delayed. The peace of mind knowing everything was set up correctly was valuable.

Just make sure your bank doesn't charge fees for ACH deposits. Some smaller banks or credit unions might have restrictions but most don't.
