The whole eligibility system is a JOKE. They make it so complicated on purpose to discourage people from applying. I worked for 2 years and they still tried to deny me because of some technicality about my work schedule. Had to fight them for months just to get what I was entitled to.
honestly the whole system is designed to confuse people with all these acronyms and technical terms. they make it so complicated on purpose
Also remember you need to register with the NYS job search system and do at least 3 work search activities per week once your claim is approved. A lot of people don't realize this requirement until they get their first weekly claim form.
Just to add - make sure your bank account is in your name only. Joint accounts sometimes cause issues with the NYS Department of Labor direct deposit system. Also double-check that your bank accepts ACH transfers for unemployment benefits, some credit unions have weird rules about it.

basically anyone can APPLY but whether you get approved is different. I applied when I quit my job and obviously got denied but at least I tried lol. the system is set up to make you jump through hoops anyway

•That's an important distinction - you can file a claim but quitting without good cause typically disqualifies you. However, there are exceptions for quitting due to unsafe working conditions, harassment, or significant changes to your job terms.

Same boat here! Lost my restaurant job and wasn't sure about applying either. Turns out even if you're not 100% sure you qualify, it's worth filing because the worst they can say is no.
