If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask specific questions about your situation, I recently discovered claimyr.com - it's a service that helps you actually reach a live agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really helped me when I was stuck in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get anyone on the phone.
Is that legit? I've been trying to call NYS Department of Labor for 2 weeks about my claim status and keep getting disconnected.
OMG I've been trying to call NYS Department of Labor for WEEKS about this exact question and can never get through! The phone lines are always busy or I get disconnected after waiting forever. It's so frustrating when you just need a simple answer about whether you can collect both benefits.
I had the same problem reaching them until someone told me about this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. It was honestly a lifesaver when I needed to talk to someone about my claim status. Way easier than spending hours trying to get through on my own.
Just make sure when you file your weekly claim you report your social security as 'other income' if they ask. I think there's a section for that but I'm not 100% sure how it affects the calculation.
The job search thing is no joke - you need to keep detailed records of every application, networking contact, job fair etc. NYS Department of Labor can audit your job search log at any time and if you don't have proper documentation they can disqualify you and make you pay back benefits. I learned this the hard way.
The WHOLE SYSTEM is designed to make you jump through hoops and deny you benefits! They'll find ANY excuse to delay or deny your claim. I've been fighting with NYS Department of Labor for months over a simple separation issue. They make it so complicated on purpose to discourage people from applying. Just be prepared for frustration and bureaucratic nonsense.
For job search activities, make sure you're logging everything in their system. Online applications count but you need the company name and position title. Networking activities need specific details about who you contacted. Career counseling sessions and job fairs also qualify. The key is documentation - they can audit your job search log at any time.

I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months trying to get through to someone about my claim status. The phone system is impossible! I finally found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a real person at the unemployment office. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they even have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Way better than spending hours on hold.

•Oh interesting! I might need that if I have issues with my weekly claims. How does it work exactly?

•It basically handles the calling and waiting for you, then connects you when they get a human on the line. Saved me so much time and frustration.

Yeah my cousin works in HR and she says they hate unemployment claims because it jacks up their insurance rates. But like everyone else said, that's their problem not yours. You worked, you paid into the system through your job, you deserve the benefits when you need them.
