same thing happened to my cousin but it turned out to be nothing major. just had to resubmit some paperwork and everything was fine
The important thing is to respond to the rework requirement promptly. NYS Department of Labor gives you a deadline (usually 10-30 days) to complete whatever they're asking for. If you miss the deadline, your claim could be suspended. Keep filing your weekly claims in the meantime and document everything you submit. Save copies of all correspondence and take screenshots of your online submissions.
I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I needed clarification on my benefit type. Spent hours on hold trying to speak with someone about whether my temporary layoff qualified for standby or regular UI. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made the whole process way easier than sitting on hold all day.
The economic types are just academic theory - frictional (between jobs), structural (skills mismatch), cyclical (recession-related), seasonal (temporary work), and institutional (government policies affecting employment). For your NYS Department of Labor claim, none of that matters. You file based on your work separation reason and current employment status, not economic theory categories.
just quit already life's too short to be miserable every day!! you can figure out the unemployment stuff later
One more important point - if you do decide to quit, make sure you apply for unemployment benefits right away even if you think you might get denied. You can always appeal a denial, but you can't get retroactive benefits for weeks you didn't file. The worst they can say is no, and you might be surprised. Document everything and be prepared to explain your good cause reasoning clearly.
I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I had questions about reporting work. If you need to speak with someone about your specific situation, I found claimyr.com really helpful. They have a service that gets you through to actual NYS Department of Labor agents instead of waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

•I wasn't sure if appeals had to be done in person since it's such a serious thing. Good to know it's all online now.

The NYS Department of Labor office hours are usually posted on their website but they change them sometimes without notice. I went to my local office last month and they were closed for 'staff training' with just a paper sign on the door. So frustrating when you need help with something urgent like an appeal deadline.
