Why Are My IRS Account Balances Fluctuating? Yesterday Showed $1,200 Owed, Today All Years Show $0.00

I checked my IRS account at sa.www4.irs.gov and all my balances keep fluctuating. Looking at the Details By Year section right now, it shows: Tax Year 2024: $0.00 Tax Year 2023: $0.00 Tax Year 2022: $0.00 Tax Year 2021: $0.00 Every single year shows exactly $0.00 owed under the "You Owe" column. I can see options for "Installment agreement fees" and "Make a payment" on the page, but with zero balances across all years, I'm concerned something might be wrong with the system. I accessed my account today at 9:13 and navigated to the account section where it displays "Installment agreement fees" and "Make a payment" options at the top. Below that is a section for "Frequently Asked Questions About Balances" and then the "Details By Year" breakdown that shows: Tax Year You Owe 2024 $0.00 2023 $0.00 2022 $0.00 2021 $0.00 The MIRS system (I'm assuming that's what "MIRS" at the bottom refers to) seems to be showing all zeros consistently now, but yesterday it was showing I owed $1,200 for 2023, and the day before it showed $750 for 2022. I haven't made any payments recently so I don't understand why the amounts keep changing. Does anyone else keep seeing their account balances change when they log in? Is this normal for the IRS online account system to show fluctuating balances? Should I be concerned about these inconsistencies, or is it just a display glitch?

The IRS account transcript shows zero balances ($0.00) across all listed tax years from 2021 through 2024. The presence of "Installment agreement fees" and "Make a payment" options despite zero balances suggests this is an active account portal rather than an error page. The inclusion of 2024 is notable since we're still in the pre-filing period for that tax year - this is normal and simply represents the IRS's system preparing for the upcoming tax season. The consistent $0.00 amounts across multiple years can indicate: 1. All tax obligations have been fully satisfied 2. Recent payments haven't been fully processed yet 3. The system is undergoing routine updates Since you're seeing fluctuating balances, this likely points to ongoing processing activity in your account. The "Details By Year" section is part of the IRS's standard account view and updates regularly, sometimes multiple times per day during processing periods. For peace of mind, consider taking screenshots of these $0.00 balances and checking back in 24-48 hours to see if the amounts stabilize.

Yes, give it about a week. The IRS systems often update in cycles.
