Does $5,409.76 Balance Under "You Owe" Section on IRS Website Mean I Owe Them or Getting a Refund for 2022?

Looking at my IRS account at sa.www4.irs.gov under "Details By Year" and I see a balance of $5,409.76 for 2022. Does this mean they already took the money out? My 2023 shows exactly $0.00 and 2024 says "Your Information Is Not Available at This Time" with a note that says "If you requested an adjustment to your account your information will not be available until that transaction is complete." Really confused about what this means for my refund status. I just logged into the IRS website and took a screenshot of what I'm seeing at 2:49. Here's what's displayed under "Frequently Asked Questions About Balances" and "Details By Year": Tax Year You Owe - 2024 INFO Income Tax i Your Information Is Not Available at This Time If you requested an adjustment to your account your information will not be available until that transaction is complete. 2023 $0.00 + 2022 $5,409.76 2021 The IRS website shows these balances under "You Owe" but I'm not sure if this is what I owe them or what they owe me? For 2022, does this $5,409.76 balance mean I owe the IRS this amount, or is this what they're supposed to be refunding me? I'm particularly confused because I thought I was getting a refund, not owing money. Also, what does it mean that my 2024 information isn't available? I recently submitted some paperwork requesting an adjustment - is that why it shows this message about "If you requested an adjustment to your account your information will not be available until that transaction is complete"? Can someone help me understand what these different year balances mean and what I should expect regarding my refund status?

The IRS account details show three distinct tax years with different statuses: For 2022, there's an outstanding balance of $5,409.76 listed under "You Owe" - this is an amount you need to pay to the IRS, not what they owe you. The balance will remain until you make payment arrangements or pay it in full. The 2023 tax year shows a $0.00 balance, indicating you're completely settled with the IRS for that year - no outstanding debts or credits. For 2024, you're seeing a standard processing message stating "Your Information Is Not Available at This Time." This is normal since 2024 is the current tax year and any adjustments or processing is still ongoing. The note about requested adjustments suggests there may be pending changes to your account that need to be completed before accurate information can be displayed. The location of these balances under the "You Owe" section confirms these are amounts payable to the IRS, not refund amounts. The timestamp of 2:49 and the sa.www4.irs.gov domain indicate this is from the official IRS online portal.

Could be several things - insufficient withholding, self-employment income, or missed deductions. You should pull your full transcript to see the details.
