WMR suddenly asking me to re-enter info after finding me all week?
So I've been checking Where's My Refund all week like it's my Instagram feed (tax refund FOMO is real š) and it's been showing my return status just fine. But today, out of nowhere, it's acting like it has amnesia and asking me to re-enter all my info as if we've never met before. Anyone else experiencing this digital betrayal or is the IRS playing hard to get with just me? I'm trying to fund my summer classes here! š¤

This happens pretty regularly during tax season. It's like when Netflix randomly logs you out for no reason. The WMR tool does maintenance and sometimes resets user sessions. It's not necessarily indicating anything about your refund status - more like their system doing its thing. I've seen this happen to plenty of people and their refunds still processed normally.

I tracked exactly 17 WMR outages during the 2023 tax season and we're already at 9 for 2024. This is absolutely normal system behavior during peak processing periods. I'd recommend using https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript instead - it's much more reliable than WMR. I used it when WMR gave me the same issue last month and it showed me my actual processing status with all the codes explained. WMR is notoriously glitchy exactly 45-60 days into tax season.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Or perhaps using a different browser entirely? The WMR tool has several known technical issues that can cause this symptom. Did you also check if you're entering the exact same information as before? Even a single digit difference in the refund amount can cause this error.

ā¢Would using the IRS2Go app instead of the website help with this issue? I've heard it sometimes works when the website doesn't. ⢠Has anyone compared the reliability between the app and website? ⢠Does logging in with ID.me make any difference? ⢠How long do these glitches typically last?

Has anyone been able to get through on the refund hotline? According to the IRS website, they're only answering 1 in 50 calls right now due to high volume. I need this refund for rent next month and can't tell if this is just a glitch or if my return is actually lost in the system. Anyone know the best time to call?

I had the EXACT same problem and wasted 3 days trying to call the IRS. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed it was just a system glitch and my refund was still processing normally. Best $20 I ever spent instead of wasting hours on hold. The agent could see everything on my account even though WMR couldn't find me.

I've been filing taxes for over 20 years and this has happened to me at least 5-6 times. Back in 2018, WMR completely lost my information for almost two weeks. In 2021, it happened twice during the same filing season. The IRS systems run on some seriously outdated infrastructure. Their main processing system still uses COBOL programming from the 1960s. Despite the glitches, your return is still in their main database even if the public-facing tools can't find it.

This is normal. Happens every year. System overload. Try again tomorrow. Different browsers help. Mobile sometimes works better. Don't panic. Your return isn't lost. Just a display issue. WMR isn't connected to main IRS database directly. It's just a status tool.

This happened to me last month and I was FREAKING OUT because I needed that money for my car repair! š I kept checking 3-4 times a day and getting more stressed. Then suddenly on a Saturday morning it was back to normal showing my status, and I got my deposit the following Wednesday. The emotional rollercoaster was REAL but it all worked out. Hang in there! ā¤ļø
