IRS Where's My Refund Tool Showing "Information Doesn't Match Records" Error Since February Filing

Every time I try to check Where's My Refund I keep getting an error saying my information doesn't match what they have on file. I triple checked my social, filing status and refund amount. I'm on the IRS website (sa.www4.irs.gov) under the Refunds/Refund Status/Results section, and I keep getting this error message: "The information you entered doesn't match our records. Please double-check your information and try again." The page says I can "view our frequently asked questions for help with common issues, such as finding your exact refund amount, verifying that your tax return was accepted, and typical processing times." But I'm positive I'm entering everything correctly in the "Get Refund Status" section where it asks for "Social Security Number, Tax Year, your Filing Status, and the Refund Amount as shown on your tax return." I've tried accessing this through TurboTax too since that's what I used to file back in February, but I get the same error. It's incredibly frustrating to be stuck in this loop for over two months with no updates on my refund. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the IRS refund status tool? Any suggestions on what might be causing this mismatch in their system?

Been dealing with this issue for weeks now. The key is to make sure your info matches EXACTLY what's on your return - down to every digit and punctuation mark. I've seen tons of cases where even a slight difference causes this error. One thing that really helped me was using taxr.ai to analyze my transcripts and documents. It pointed out that my SSN formatting was slightly different from what I filed (had an extra dash). Once I fixed that, everything went through smooth. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - saved me hours of headache trying to figure out what was wrong.

takes like 24-48 hrs for WMR to update usually. taxr showed me exactly when to expect the update based on my cycle code

Tax pro here! This is actually pretty common. The WMR tool can be finicky. Try these tricks: 1) enter whole dollar amounts only (no cents), 2) if you're married filing jointly, try entering the first spouse's SSN listed on return, 3) clear your browser cache or try a different browser. If none of that works, pull your transcript instead - it's more reliable anyway.

Hey guys, instead of playing detective with WMR and transcripts, try taxr.ai - it's literally changed the game for me. For $4.99 it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when to expect your refund. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

sounds interesting but kinda sketch. how does it actually work?

not sketch at all! you just upload your transcript and their AI breaks down every code and gives you a timeline. way better than googling random codes for hours

Ugh, been there! This exact thing happened to me last month. After days of frustration, I finally figured out it was because I was entering my AGI from last year instead of the actual refund amount shown on this year's return. The IRS website isn't super clear about which number they want. Also make sure you're using the filing status exactly as it appears on your return - sometimes "Head of Household" vs "HOH" can mess things up. If you're still stuck, try accessing it super early in the morning (like 6 AM) when their servers are less loaded. The system gets overwhelmed during peak hours and throws random errors. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this! I was definitely using my AGI instead of the refund amount šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø Just tried it with the correct refund amount and it finally worked! Been stuck on this for like 3 weeks now. The early morning tip is gold too - makes total sense why it would work better when fewer people are hitting their servers.

Had this exact same problem last week! Turns out I was overthinking it. The issue for me was that I filed an amended return back in March and was still using my original refund amount instead of the updated one. Once I checked my account transcript and saw the actual processed refund amount (which was different due to some corrections), I used that number and boom - WMR finally worked. Also learned that if you have any IRS notices or letters, they might have adjusted your refund without you realizing it. Definitely worth pulling your transcript first to see what amount they actually have on file before trying WMR again.

This is super helpful! I never thought about amended returns affecting the WMR tool. I filed an extension back in October and wonder if that's messing things up too. Did you have to wait long for your transcript to update after the amended return was processed? I'm thinking I should probably check mine before trying WMR again for the millionth time šŸ˜…
