WMR Changed to Approved! How Long Until Direct Deposit?

Just checked Where's My Refund and it FINALLY changed to approved!! 🎉 Been checking that thing like 5 times a day for weeks lol. Anyone know roughly how long after the status changes to approved that the money actually hits your account? I'm trying to figure out if I should pay some bills now or wait for the refund to come through first.

Congrats! Typically, once WMR shows approved, you'll see the direct deposit within 1-5 business days. The IRS usually processes direct deposits in batches that go out on specific days of the week (often Wednesday/Friday). If you see a specific date on your WMR, that's generally accurate within a day.

Mine changed to approved on a Tuesday afternoon and the money was in my account Thursday morning. So about 36 hours for me. Depends on your bank too - some hold it for a day, others make it available immediately.

When I got the approved message, I used https://taxr.ai to check my transcript and it showed exactly when the refund would hit. It decoded all those weird IRS codes and gave me the exact date. Saved me from constantly refreshing my bank app! They showed me that the 846 code on my transcript was actually the direct deposit date, something I never knew before.

Is it worth paying for that though? Can't you just look at your transcript yourself for free on the IRS site?

You definitely can check your transcript yourself! But honestly, interpreting all those codes was confusing to me. I had like 12 different codes on mine and couldn't figure out what was happening. The tool explained everything in plain English and highlighted the important parts. For me it was worth it just for the peace of mind.

Has anyone here had their approved status change back to processing? That happened to my brother last year and I'm paranoid about it.

That's extremely rare once it hits approved with a DD date. The only time I've seen that happen is when there was a bank account number error or the bank rejected the deposit for some reason.

Oh man I hope that doesn't happen! I triple checked my direct deposit info when I filed. Fingers crossed 🤞

I had the same situation last month. My WMR said approved but then nothing happened for over a week. I got worried and tried calling the IRS but kept getting the "high call volume" message. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent without the endless wait. Found out there was a small verification hold they needed to clear. Got my deposit 2 days after the call. Sometimes it's worth talking to an actual human to make sure everything's moving along.

I didn't know there was a service that could get you through to the IRS! I spent 3 hours on hold last week before giving up. Might try this if my deposit doesn't show up soon.

Just a heads up - if you filed with certain tax credits (like Earned Income or Additional Child Tax Credit), even after approval there's sometimes an extra 1-2 day hold before release. That happened to me this year.
