Filed 2/24 and Got Rejected - Does WMR Show Money Released?

Quick question for those who filed around February 24th and had their returns rejected initially but resubmitted. When you check the Where's My Refund tool, does it actually show that the money has been sent or released? I'm trying to time some investment moves for April 15th and need to know if I can count on this money hitting my account soon. I've been tracking several dates on my calendar and noticed a pattern with the 5-day rejection window, but I'm unclear on what the government site actually displays once it's approved.

From my experience with the 2/24 filing cohort, WMR typically displays three distinct statuses: "Return Received," "Refund Approved," and "Refund Sent." The Direct Deposit Information (DDI) stage will explicitly indicate when funds have been released to your financial institution. Given the current processing timeline, many 2/24 filers who experienced the initial rejection and resubmitted are now transitioning to the final stage. Check for the exact verbiage "Your refund has been sent to your bank" which confirms the ACH transfer has been initiated.

I was in this boat. Filed 2/24. Got rejected. Fixed it fast. Waited forever to reach IRS. Couldn't get through. Used Claimyr.com instead. Got connected in minutes. Agent confirmed my money was actually sent yesterday! WMR hadn't updated yet. Worth every penny. https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Is that service even legitimate? Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code strictly limits what information IRS representatives can disclose over the phone. I'm surprised they'd tell you specifics about your refund status without additional verification protocols.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for suggesting this! I was in the exact same boat - filed 2/24, rejected for some stupid dependent issue, resubmitted on 3/1. I used Claimyr yesterday after seeing your post and got through in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent confirmed my refund was actually processed and is scheduled for deposit on 4/11. The WMR tool was still showing the first bar!

How much did it cost tho? Was thinking about trying it but wasn't sure if the price was worth it vs just waiting another week or so?

The WMR tool is about as reliable as my ex's promises right now! 😂 But seriously, I've noticed that for those Feb 24th filers who got rejected, the system often shows "Refund Approved" for 2-3 days before changing to "Refund Sent." The good news is once it hits that final stage, the money usually appears in your account within 1-2 business days. I was so relieved when mine finally updated yesterday after being stuck for weeks!

Is anyone else wondering why the IRS can't just build a better tracking system? They've had decades to figure this out, yet every year it's the same guessing game. Why should we have to rely on these vague status bars when they clearly know exactly where our money is in their system?

Could you clarify what your timeline looked like? I'm trying to map out what to expect for my situation: 1. When did you initially file? 2. When did you get the rejection notice? 3. When did you resubmit? 4. When did WMR first update? 5. When did you see the "Refund Approved" status? 6. When did it change to "Refund Sent"? 7. When did the money actually hit your account?

The WMR tool behavior for 2024 returns is notably different compared to previous years. In the 2023 filing season, rejections were processed within 72 hours, whereas this year's February cohort is experiencing 5-7 day rejection windows. When your refund is released, WMR will explicitly state "Your refund was sent to your bank on [DATE]." This is distinct from the transcript code 846 which may appear 24-48 hours before WMR updates. Many 2/24 filers who resubmitted after rejection are seeing deposits this week, while 3/1 resubmissions are just now reaching approval stage.

Last year I was obsessively checking WMR and my transcript every few hours. Such a waste of time and stress! This year I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it was a game-changer. It explained that my 570/971 codes were just verification holds, not audits. Even predicted my exact deposit date (April 12th) based on the processing pattern. If you're trying to plan investments, it gives you a much clearer timeline than the vague WMR bars.

You might want to check your transcript instead of WMR. In many cases, your transcript will update with code 846 (refund issued) before WMR shows the final status. This is generally more reliable, particularly for those who filed in February and experienced the rejection issue. Most filers in your situation should see a deposit within approximately 7-10 days after resubmission, assuming there are no other issues with the return.

Have you tried calling the automated refund hotline at 800-829-1954? It's like having a secret backdoor while everyone else is pounding on the front door. Sometimes it updates faster than the online tool. I've noticed for February filers who had rejections, the phone system might show the refund as sent up to 24 hours before the website updates. Considering your investment deadline is approaching like a freight train, those hours could make a difference.
