TurboTax with SBTPG fees - Direct Deposit Date 2/22 - Cash App Check-In Thread
Hey tax fam! Just wanted to start a check-in thread for those of us in the same boat. Here's my timeline so far: 1. Filed through TurboTax on 2/5 with fees taken out of refund (SBTPG) 2. Got accepted same day 3. WMR updated to approved yesterday 4. Direct deposit date scheduled for 2/22 to my Cash App Anyone else with similar dates? Let's keep each other updated on when funds actually hit our accounts. My wife and I are eager to put this refund toward our home renovation fund! 🏠💰

Dealing with SBTPG is like waiting for a sloth to deliver your mail. They're notorious for holding funds an extra day or two after the IRS releases them. I'm in the same boat with 2/22 DDD, but I'm not holding my breath for it to actually arrive that day. Last year my "deposit date" was actually just the day SBTPG received my refund, then they took another 24-48 hours to process before sending to my bank.

I think I might be in a similar situation, possibly. My DDD is 2/22 as well, and I'm somewhat concerned that the SBTPG processing might add an extra delay. The IRS seems to be moving fairly quickly this season though, so there's that at least.

This is way better than last year though! Remember how in 2023 some people were waiting 3-4 days after their DDD because of that SBTPG system crash? Compared to that disaster, waiting 24-48 hours is practically express service.

Does anyone know if there's a difference in processing time between: • Cash App deposits • Traditional bank accounts • Credit union accounts I've heard Cash App sometimes posts a day earlier than traditional banks once SBTPG releases the funds.

OMG I've been tracking my refund obsessively this year!! 😩 SBTPG has been SO frustrating to deal with. I tried calling their customer service yesterday and waited 45 minutes only to get disconnected. I finally found https://taxr.ai which helped me understand my transcript codes and explained exactly why my refund was taking this long. It showed me that my 846 code (refund issued) matches my DDD of 2/22, but also explained how SBTPG's processing works. Feeling much more confident now that I actually understand what's happening behind the scenes! 💪

Have you tried calling the IRS directly to confirm everything is on track? I'm always cautious about relying solely on WMR since it doesn't always update correctly. When I had a similar situation last year, I spent days trying to reach an IRS agent but kept getting the dreaded "call volume too high" message. Has anyone tried using Claimyr.com to get through? I've heard they can connect you to an IRS agent without the endless redial game. Might be worth it for peace of mind?

Just a heads up - Cash App deposits sometimes post earlier than traditional banks. Last year my DDD was a Thursday (like your 2/22), but the money actually hit my Cash App on Wednesday evening around 9pm. The IRS releases the funds to SBTPG, then SBTPG processes their fee deduction and releases to your bank, then your bank makes it available. Cash App tends to make funds available as soon as they receive the pending deposit notification, unlike traditional banks that might wait until the actual posting date.

This isn't always true though. SBTPG has to actually process the payment before Cash App even gets notified. The technical term is ACH processing window - SBTPG typically uses the afternoon window which means even if the IRS releases funds at midnight, SBTPG might not process until their 2pm batch.

Can confirm this! My Cash App refund last year hit a full day early. The IRS said Thursday, but I got a nice surprise Wednesday afternoon. Nothing beats that "Your account has been credited" notification when you're not expecting it! 😂

URGENT INFO FOR ANYONE WITH 2/22 DDD: Just got off the phone with SBTPG customer service (800-901-6663). The rep confirmed they're processing 2/22 DDDs in batches TODAY. Funds should be released to banks/Cash App between 2pm-8pm EST depending on which processing batch your refund falls into. SBTPG processes in order of when they received confirmation from IRS, NOT in order of when you filed. If you don't see funds by tomorrow morning, call SBTPG with your TurboTax order number to verify status.

Thank you!!! I've been refreshing my Cash App every 15 minutes since 6am today (2/21). My rent is due on the 1st and I'm cutting it close. Last year my funds hit exactly at 4:32pm on the day before my DDD, so I'm hoping for the same timeline today.

Does this apply to all banks? Or just Cash App? My DDD is 2/22. Using Wells Fargo. Called SBTPG. They couldn't confirm my batch. Said to wait until tomorrow. Frustrating process.

Anyone try the SBTPG website to check ur refund status? Ngl their site is trash but sometimes it updates b4 the money hits. Go to https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com and use ur SSN + expected refund amt to check. Mine shows "funded" which supposedly means they sent it to my bank, but still no $ in my Cash App acct. Lmk if urs shows the same?

Thank you for this! I had no idea they had a tracking portal. Just checked and mine shows "funded" too. Such a relief to know it's actually on the way and not stuck somewhere in the system!

I've been tracking tax refunds professionally for years, and I should caution that the SBTPG portal status can be misleading. "Funded" means they've initiated the transfer, but ACH transfers typically take 24-48 hours to complete depending on the receiving institution's processing schedule. Cash App tends to be faster than traditional banks, but there are no guarantees.

For those tracking exact timing: I had a DDD of 2/15 last week with identical setup (TurboTax + SBTPG + Cash App). The IRS sent funds to SBTPG at exactly 12:01am on 2/15. SBTPG processed in their 2:00pm batch. Money appeared in my Cash App at precisely 5:47pm on 2/15. Total time from IRS release to Cash App deposit was 17 hours and 46 minutes. Based on this timeline, expect your funds tomorrow evening, not today.

Let me explain how the SBTPG process actually works, since there's a lot of misinformation: Step 1: IRS approves your refund and assigns a DDD (in your case 2/22) Step 2: IRS releases funds to SBTPG (usually midnight of your DDD) Step 3: SBTPG verifies the amount matches what they expected Step 4: SBTPG deducts their fees and TurboTax fees Step 5: SBTPG initiates ACH transfer to your bank/Cash App Step 6: Your bank/Cash App processes the incoming ACH Cash App is typically faster at Step 6 than traditional banks. Some people get lucky and SBTPG processes them a day early, but don't count on it.

Warning from someone who's been through this: Never pay TurboTax fees from your refund if you can avoid it! I paid $39 extra last year for the "privilege" of having SBTPG hold my money for 2 extra days. This year I paid TurboTax directly with a credit card and my refund came straight from IRS to my bank - got it 3 days BEFORE my official DDD! The SBTPG middleman just adds delays and their website never shows accurate info. Check https://igotmyrefund.com/forums for real-time reports from others with your same DDD.
