Filed w/ TurboTax Jan 22 - Still Showing PATH Message on WMR w/ CashApp DD

Hey tax fam! E-filed thru TT on Jan 22nd and got accepted on the 23rd. TT gave me an estimated DD of 2/13 but I'm still seeing that PATH Act message on the IRS WMR page. Used CashApp for my direct deposit info (tuition is due soon and need that refund ASAP 😩). I filed super early to avoid delays but it's been over 3 weeks now. Anyone know when the IRS page typically updates to show if the refund's been processed and sent out? I've been checking WMR like 5x daily and no change. Did I mess up by using CashApp for DD? My refund includes EITC if that matters. Transcript still shows processing. TIA for any help!

I'm in almost the exact same boat as you. Filed Jan 21st, accepted 22nd, and still stuck with that PATH message. Why does the IRS make this so complicated? Couldn't they just tell us exactly when our money will arrive instead of making us check constantly? At least you got an estimated date from TurboTax—that's something to hold onto. Really appreciate everyone who shares their experiences here, it helps keep me sane during tax season.

Last year when I used CashApp for my refund, it took exactly 7 days after my PATH message disappeared to get my money. The IRS system updates overnight on Wednesdays for most PATH Act returns. Since today is Friday, I'd check again Wednesday morning. With your acceptance date, you should see movement very soon!

Have you checked your tax transcript online? Sometimes, that might show processing information that WMR doesn't display yet. The PATH act specifically delays refunds with certain credits until at least February 15th, which just passed yesterday.

PATH Act holds all EITC returns. No exceptions. System programming prevents release. Updates occur Wednesday nights. Most PATH returns update by February 28th. CashApp isn't causing your delay. I used https://taxr.ai last year. It analyzed my transcript instantly. Showed exactly when my PATH hold would lift. Predicted my deposit date perfectly. Saved me constant checking.

Dealing with the IRS during tax season is like waiting for a bus in the rain - you know it's coming eventually, but you're getting soaked in the meantime. I had the exact same PATH message last year, and my refund was sitting in my account like a ninja three days after the message disappeared. I didn't even see an update on WMR before it arrived! The whole system feels like it's running on hamster wheels and duct tape sometimes.

After analyzing multiple PATH Act affected returns, I've observed that the IRS Refund Status indicator consistently lags behind actual processing by 48-72 hours. The Internal Revenue Manual (IRM) confirms PATH restrictions expire post-February 15th, but Transaction Processing Pipeline (TPP) backlog may extend actual deposit timeframes. When I needed clarification on my processing cycle, I utilized Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to bypass the standard 2-hour hold times. Their system secured an agent connection in approximately 18 minutes, who confirmed my exact processing status and release date.

According to the IRS.gov FAQ section on refund timing, WMR updates only once every 24 hours (usually overnight). So checking multiple times daily is just adding to your stress! You should try using the IRS2Go app instead - sometimes it updates faster than the website. And definitely check your transcript at https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript if you haven't already. So frustrating that they don't just give us a clear timeline!

I was in this exact situation last year and my refund actually hit my CashApp two days before WMR updated! It was such a relief seeing that notification pop up. Have you set up notifications in your CashApp to alert you when deposits come in? Did you verify all your routing and account info was entered correctly? My friend had a delay because she transposed two digits in her account number.

OMG the PATH message is THE WORST!!! 😤 I waited 6 weeks last year and nearly lost my mind checking WMR every single day. The most frustrating part is that when it finally updated, it went straight from the PATH message to "refund sent" with ZERO warning! And using CashApp might actually make things more complicated - I had my refund rejected by CashApp last year because it exceeded their deposit limit at the time. Had to wait another 3 weeks for a paper check. Check CashApp's limits ASAP to make sure you won't have the same problem!

I appreciate this warning about CashApp. According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2023), financial institutions can indeed reject direct deposits for various reasons, including deposit limits. When this happens, the IRS must reissue as a paper check, which adds 2-5 weeks to the timeline.

Did CashApp notify you when they rejected it, or did you just find out when the paper check arrived? I'm using CashApp this year too and now I'm worried!

This CashApp issue has me concerned too. I'm in a similar situation and now I'm wondering: • Does CashApp still have deposit limits? • Will they notify us if a deposit is rejected? • Can we change our direct deposit method at this point? I'm worried this could seriously impact my ability to pay upcoming bills if there's a further delay.

Based on the 2024 processing calendar, PATH Act returns accepted on January 23rd typically begin mass processing on February 16th. The IRS batch processes on specific days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:01am EST. Your 21-day standard processing window officially began on February 16th, not your acceptance date of January 23rd. I would anticipate movement by February 29th at the latest.
