Trouble getting EIN from IRS: Tips for reaching a live agent?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my EIN number but I'm having trouble reaching someone at the IRS. Has anyone had any luck getting through to them lately? I've been on hold for hours and keep getting disconnected. Any tips or tricks would be really appreciated!

I found a way to solve IRS EIN application phone issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM_fI98bYbo

Here's what worked for me after weeks of trying: 1. Call exactly at 7:00 AM Eastern Time 2. Choose the option for "Questions about an existing business account" 3. When asked for your EIN, enter a random sequence of numbers 4. This should get you to a human faster It's not guaranteed, but it's worked twice for me now. Good luck!

Wow, thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely give this a shot tomorrow morning.

Isn't this kinda like lying tho? Could you get in trouble for this?

Nah, once you get a person just explain your real situation. They're usually understanding.

It's a bit risky, but it seems to be a common strategy people use out of desperation.

Have you tried reaching out to your local congressperson's office? Sometimes they can help with IRS issues.

Ella rollingthunder87

I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how long that process usually takes?

It can vary, but in my experience, they're pretty responsive. Worth a shot!

It's a good alternative if everything else fails. Some offices are quite effective in expediting these issues.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's crazy! The government should make this easier.

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

I tried it as well, and it worked for me too. However, $20 can be a lot for some people, especially if you're on a tight budget.

Protip: Use the "business" option when calling, even if you're not a business. Sometimes the wait times are shorter.

That's a clever workaround! Just make sure you're ready to explain why you're calling in case they ask.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire tax system. It shouldn't be this hard to get a simple number from the government. 🤦‍♂️

Preach! 🙌 The system is designed to be confusing on purpose, I swear.

Totally agree. It's 2023, why can't we just do everything online?

Reforming the tax system could definitely help alleviate these issues, but it'll take time and political will to implement changes.

lol good luck. I've been trying to get my EIN for 3 months now. At this point, I'm considering just making one up 🤡

Be careful with that approach. It could cause more problems down the line with the IRS.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks now. It's like they're purposely making it impossible to talk to a human being. 🤬

I agree, it's incredibly frustrating. The IRS should prioritize hiring more staff or upgrading their systems to handle calls better.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Ella rollingthunder87

I've tried that, but no luck. It's always busy or I get put on hold forever.

Same here. I even set an alarm for 5 minutes before they open and still couldn't get through. It's ridiculous!

It used to work a while back, but it seems like more people have learned this trick, so it's not as effective now.

I've been in the same boat for months now. It's like trying to win the lottery just to get someone on the phone. The whole system is broken af 😤

It's true, the demand exceeds the capacity they currently have. It's a systemic issue that needs addressing.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should just abolish EINs altogether. Why do we even need them?

0 coins

-

Nolan Carter

Bruh, do you even business? EINs are crucial for tax purposes and legal stuff.

I'm just saying, there's gotta be a better way. The current system is clearly broken.

EINs streamline tax reporting for businesses and organizations, but there's definitely room for improvement in how we manage them.

Have you tried faxing your request? I know it sounds ancient, but sometimes old school methods work better with government agencies.

0 coins

-

Harper Collins

I've heard that too. Faxing might seem outdated, but it can be surprisingly effective for some IRS requests.

Anyone else lowkey impressed by how consistently terrible the IRS phone system is? Like, it takes skill to be this bad for this long 💯

It's like a bad joke that keeps getting worse. Hopefully, improvements are on the horizon.

I found success with Claimyr too, and I agree it's a useful tool when desperate to reach the IRS. However, it's important to weigh the cost against your needs. Some people may prefer to continue attempting the traditional methods despite the delays, while others may find the $20 fee a worthwhile investment for their time and sanity. Additionally, while Claimyr is efficient in connecting you to a live representative, keep in mind it's a workaround rather than a fix for the underlying inefficiencies in the IRS communication system. Hopefully, the IRS will improve their systems to make reaching them more accessible and less reliant on third-party services.

I heard a rumor that if you press 0 repeatedly during the automated menu, it'll eventually connect you to a person. Never worked for me tho 🤷‍♂️

Abigail Patel

I've tried that too, but it seems like the system has evolved to ignore that trick.

Have you tried using the IRS website to get your EIN? Sometimes you can do it online without having to call.

Ella rollingthunder87

I tried, but my situation is a bit complicated. Need to talk to a real person unfortunately.

The online application is great for straightforward cases, but any complexities usually mean a phone call is necessary.
