TaxAct Showing "This return has been paid" - Good News?

Anybody use TaxAct? So I'm not able to check my transcripts BUT when I logged in to check the status of my return under additional details it says the date I submitted it and under that, it says "This return has been paid". Does it sound like it was approved? I was having fees taken out of my return. TIA! Hoping this $ comes thru soon, PCSing next month and every $ helps rn.

I've used TaxAct for several years. Here's what that status likely means: 1. First, "This return has been paid" typically refers to your preparation fees being processed. 2. It means TaxAct received payment for their services from your refund. 3. This usually happens AFTER the IRS has processed your refund. 4. The refund flows: IRS → TaxAct (takes their fees) → Your bank account. Have you checked the Where's My Refund tool on the IRS website? That would confirm if your refund has been approved, right?

I had the exact same message last month! The terminology is super confusing. In my case, I got my direct deposit exactly 4 days after seeing this message. TaxAct's interface uses some weird financial terms that make no sense to regular people. They should really call it "Fees have been collected" instead of "return has been paid.

I filed through TaxAct exactly 17 days ago and got that same message exactly 3 days ago. My refund hit my account this morning at 3:42 AM. If you're seeing that message, your money should be coming VERY soon!

But what if the fees were taken directly from a credit card instead of the refund? Would it still show that message? I'm confused because I paid my TaxAct fees upfront but still see similar wording.

Did you happen to get an email from TaxAct or your bank about the deposit? Sometimes they send notifications that get lost in spam folders. Also, have you checked your bank account directly instead of just the TaxAct portal? Sometimes the money arrives but the status doesn't update... kind of like when your Amazon package is sitting on your porch but the tracking still says "out for delivery" 😂

I wonder if perhaps the status might be referring to the submission of the return rather than the actual refund deposit? Has anyone contacted TaxAct customer service to clarify their specific status terminology?

This thread is super helpful! I filed on March 15th and just got the same message yesterday. Glad to know it probably means my money is on the way soon.

Finally! Someone explained this clearly. I've been staring at my TaxAct account like it's a crystal ball trying to decipher what these statuses mean. It's like trying to read hieroglyphics without the Rosetta Stone. So relieved to understand this now.

Had same issue last year. Couldn't check transcript. Status confusing. Called IRS directly. Got answers fast. Used Claimyr service (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Connected to agent in minutes. Confirmed refund was processed. Money arrived next day. Saved hours of hold time. Worth it for peace of mind.

I'm always hesitant about services that claim to get you through to the IRS faster. Seems like they're just exploiting a broken system that should be fixed. Have you tried calling the IRS directly during non-peak hours? I've had success getting through around 7am Eastern or late afternoon on Thursdays.

You might want to try checking your bank account directly? Sometimes the money is already there even when the status hasn't updated. I was worried about my refund last month and kept checking the TaxAct portal, but it turned out the money had been in my account for two days already... I just hadn't noticed because it posted under a different name than I expected ("US TREASURY" instead of "IRS" or "Tax Refund").

I'm not convinced that message means what everyone thinks it means! I had "This return has been paid" for TWO WEEKS last year before my actual refund came through. So frustrating! TaxAct's wording is SO misleading and I'm honestly angry they haven't fixed it yet. Their customer service couldn't even give me a straight answer when I called to ask what it meant exactly. I'm switching to a different preparer next year!

I think everyone here is on the right track. From my research: • "This return has been paid" = TaxAct received their fees • This typically happens when the IRS has processed your refund • The refund is usually in a final processing stage • Most users report receiving direct deposits 2-5 days after seeing this status • Military families sometimes see slightly faster processing times Just be patient a few more days. Your money is most likely on the way!

Want to know what's really happening behind the scenes? When you see "This return has been paid," it means your refund has hit the TaxAct processing bank. They've taken their fees and are now forwarding the remainder to your account. Why don't they just say that clearly? Because tax software companies aren't required to use standardized status language. Have you noticed how each company uses different terminology? It's a common source of confusion every tax season, but the good news is that your money is almost certainly on its way to you.

Hey there! Good luck with your PCS move next month - that's always stressful financially! Based on what others have shared here, that "This return has been paid" message is definitely a good sign. It sounds like TaxAct has processed their fee deduction from your refund, which means the IRS has likely already approved and sent your refund to TaxAct. Since you mentioned you can't check your transcripts, you might want to try the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool if you haven't already - it only needs your SSN, filing status, and refund amount. Most people here seem to get their money within 2-5 days of seeing that message, so fingers crossed yours comes through soon for your move!

Great advice about the "Where's My Refund" tool! I'm also military and went through a PCS last year - totally understand how every dollar counts during that time. Just wanted to add that if you're doing a DITY/PPM move, make sure to keep all your receipts for the tax deduction next year. The moving expenses can really add up but at least you can claim some of it back. Hope your refund comes through quickly and your PCS goes smoothly!

Just wanted to share my recent experience with TaxAct! I had the exact same "This return has been paid" message show up last week and was so confused by the wording. Like others mentioned, it really does mean TaxAct has collected their fees from your refund, which happens after the IRS processes everything. My direct deposit hit my account exactly 3 days after I first saw that message. Since you're PCSing soon and need the funds, you might also want to set up account alerts with your bank so you get notified the moment the deposit comes through - sometimes it arrives earlier in the morning than you'd expect to check. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking when you're planning a big move, but based on everyone's experiences here, your money should be coming very soon!

This is such a relief to read! I've been using TaxAct for the first time this year and that "This return has been paid" message had me completely confused. I was worried it meant something was wrong with my return. It's crazy how unclear their status messages are - you'd think they'd use more straightforward language like "Fee collection complete" or "Refund being processed to your account." Thanks for sharing your timeline too - 3 days gives me hope since I just saw this message yesterday! Did you get any notification from your bank when it deposited, or did you just happen to check your account?
