Stuck on Code 570 Since Filing on March 5th - Daily Checker Here

Filed on March 5th and still nothing moving on my transcript. Code 570 just sitting there like it's taking a permanent vacation lol. I'm checking WMR and transcripts daily (yep, I'm one of those ppl). Already triple-checked my return before submitting - all docs matched, all math correct, no silly errors. This is my 40+ yr of filing, so not my first rodeo! Anyone else stuck in 570 limbo? TIA for any insights!

The 570 code is like a yellow light at an intersection - not a full stop, but definitely a pause in processing. The IRS is essentially saying "hold up, we need to look at something" which could be anything from a simple verification to a more complex review. Like a doctor ordering additional tests, it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong, just that they want to be thorough.

This happened to me this year too! I was so nervous because I've never seen a 570 code before. First I checked my return like 5 times to make sure I didn't mess up. Then I waited. Then I panicked. Then I waited more. Here's what eventually worked for me: 1. I pulled my transcript again after 2 weeks 2. Looked for any new codes (got a 971 notice issued) 3. Waited for the notice in the mail 4. It was just asking me to verify my identity 5. Did the verification online 6. Refund approved 8 days later Not saying yours is identity verification, but sometimes it's something simple they need to check.

Did your transcript show a TC 971 accompanying the 570? The combination of those codes typically indicates a manual review process or a notice being generated. The specific action code associated with the 971 can provide insight into the nature of the hold.

I was in the EXACT same position last filing season. Filed early February, got stuck with 570, and spent months trying to figure out what was happening. The IRS phone lines were useless - couldn't even get through. What finally helped me was using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It explained that my particular 570 was related to an income verification issue and estimated when it would resolve. Saved me so much stress compared to last year when I was completely in the dark about what was happening. The system is so much more complicated than it was 10 years ago when I first started filing.

Have you checked if there's a 971 code following your 570? That combination usually indicates a notice has been issued. Also, did you claim any credits that might trigger additional verification? Are there any other codes on your transcript that might provide additional context?

570 usually freezes refund. Temporary hold. System flag triggered review. Could be income verification. Could be identity check. Could be math error. Check mail for notice. Usually resolves within 60 days. Sometimes faster.

I've analyzed dozens of transcripts with 570 codes over the years. They typically fall into these categories: • Simple verification holds (resolve in 2-4 weeks) • Income matching discrepancies (resolve in 4-8 weeks) • Credit eligibility reviews (resolve in 3-6 weeks) • Identity verification requirements (need taxpayer action) • Potential audit flags (longest resolution time) Without seeing the full transcript pattern, it's hard to pinpoint which category you're in, but the presence/absence of a 971 and when it appears relative to the 570 is very telling.

I'm sort of in a similar situation, and I really, really needed my refund for some medical expenses. After probably 20+ attempts calling the regular IRS number and never getting through, I finally tried using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). It might be worth considering if you're getting nowhere with regular channels. They got me connected to an actual IRS agent in about 15 minutes who could see my file and explained exactly what was happening with my 570 code. It did cost a little bit, but honestly, it was worth it just to finally know what was going on and when I might expect resolution.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.5.6.4.35.2, code 570 specifically indicates 'additional liability pending' or a 'refund hold.' The IRM further states that this code is typically resolved within 45 days of filing unless additional taxpayer information is required. Based on the IRS's published processing guidelines for Tax Year 2023, approximately 32% of returns with a 570 code are resolved within 21 days, while the remaining cases may require manual review, which extends processing time. The current backlog at IRS processing centers suggests your timeline may be on the longer end of the spectrum.

OMG thank you for this detailed info!!! 😭 I've been searching everywhere for actual statistics on 570 resolution times! This helps me set my expectations better. I was starting to worry I'd done something wrong even though I've been filing forever. Really appreciate you sharing the IRM reference too - gonna look that up right now!

Isn't it frustrating how the IRS can just put our refunds on hold without any clear explanation? You'd think after all these years they'd have a better system for communicating with taxpayers. The 570 code is actually quite common this year - I've seen dozens of posts about it. In most cases, it resolves itself without any action needed from you. The key is patience, which I know is easier said than done when you're waiting for your money.

I had a 570 code last month and was freaking out because I needed that refund for car repairs! I called the IRS every single day for two weeks straight and FINALLY got through on a Tuesday morning right when they opened. The agent told me it was just a random review and there was nothing wrong with my return. My transcript updated 3 days later and I got my deposit exactly 8 days after that. So about 11 days from speaking with them to money in my account. Hope yours resolves quickly too!

If you check the IRS2Go app, does it show the same status as the website? Sometimes the app updates before the website does. Also, have you looked at the Tax Topic 152 on the IRS website? It explains common reasons for refund delays including the 570 code: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc152. The information there might give you some insight while you're waiting.
