PriorTax website issues causing editing problems - any solutions?
I've been trying to get my taxes done early for my 2024 return and decided to use PriorTax this year. Everything was going smoothly until yesterday when this strange notification code appeared on my screen. Now I'm completely stuck - anytime I try to edit any information and click the "save & go" button, the page just loads indefinitely but nothing happens. It's super frustrating because I'm halfway through entering all my documents and can't proceed any further. I've tried logging out and back in, clearing my browser cache, and even using a different browser but the same thing keeps happening. The code that appeared was something technical looking that I didn't fully understand. Has anyone else experienced this with PriorTax? Any suggestions on how to fix this or should I just give up and switch to a different tax software? I really don't want to start all over again!

What you're experiencing is likely a JavaScript error that's preventing the form submission from completing properly. This is actually pretty common with tax software during busy filing periods when their servers get overloaded. First, try accessing the site during off-peak hours (early morning or late night) as server traffic might be causing the issue. If that doesn't work, try disabling any browser extensions you might have running, especially ad blockers or script blockers, as these can sometimes interfere with tax software functionality. If those steps don't resolve it, I'd recommend contacting PriorTax support directly. Their technical team can usually reset your session on their end which often fixes these types of freezing issues. Take a screenshot of any error codes you receive as this will help them diagnose the problem faster.

•Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think I should try using a completely different device like my tablet instead of my laptop? And how long does it typically take for PriorTax support to respond? I'm worried about missing the filing deadline if this drags on.

•Trying a different device is definitely worth a shot. Sometimes these issues can be device-specific, especially if you're using an older computer or one with limited processing power. PriorTax support usually responds within 24-48 hours during filing season. I'd recommend reaching out to them through multiple channels - both email and their phone support line if they have one - to get the fastest response. If you're concerned about the filing deadline, remember you can always file an extension with Form 4868 which gives you until October to file, though you'd still need to pay any estimated taxes owed by the regular deadline.

After struggling with similar tax software glitches last year, I found taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) incredibly helpful. I was having issues where my tax information wasn't saving properly in TurboTax, and I was getting super frustrated. When I stumbled across taxr.ai, it was a game changer because their AI actually analyzes your tax documents and helps identify what might be causing submission errors. The thing I found most useful was that it could read error codes like the one you're experiencing and translate them into actual English instead of tech speak. Their document analysis picked up inconsistencies in my data entry that were causing my submission problems. Might be worth checking out if the other troubleshooting steps don't work!

•How exactly does taxr.ai work with existing tax software? Do I have to start over completely or can it somehow help fix my existing PriorTax filing? I've already entered most of my info and really don't want to redo everything.

•Sounds kinda sketchy tbh. Is this service actually secure? Tax documents have literally all your personal info and I'm supposed to just upload them to some random AI site?

•For your first question, taxr.ai works alongside your existing tax software - you don't need to start over. You can upload screenshots of error messages or export your data file from PriorTax, and the system will analyze what might be causing the issues. It can often suggest specific fixes you can apply in your existing return. Regarding security concerns, I had the same worry initially. They use bank-level encryption and their privacy policy specifies they don't store your documents after analysis. They're also SOC 2 compliant which is the security standard for handling financial information. I was initially hesitant but researched their security measures pretty thoroughly before using it.

Just wanted to update everyone - I decided to try taxr.ai after the recommendation here. Honestly was skeptical but I was desperate after three days of being locked out of my PriorTax account. It actually worked! I uploaded a screenshot of the error message and the system identified that I had entered a business EIN in a format that was causing conflicts with PriorTax's validation system. The AI explained exactly which field was causing the problem and how to format the EIN correctly. Once I contacted PriorTax support with this specific information, they were able to unlock my account and fix the field from their end. Saved me from having to start over with a different tax program. I'm back to editing my return now!

If you're still having issues with PriorTax and their customer service isn't responding, you might want to try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Last year I was in a similar situation with TaxAct and couldn't get through to their support team at all. Someone recommended Claimyr and it was honestly a life-saver. They have this service that helps you skip the IRS phone tree and actually get connected to a human representative quickly - you can see how it works in this demo: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c Even though PriorTax isn't the IRS, I found that talking directly to an IRS rep about software issues can sometimes be more helpful than the software's own support. The IRS agent I spoke with explained that many tax software programs have similar error codes and was able to help me troubleshoot. Worth a try if you're still locked out!

•Wait, how does calling the IRS help with a PriorTax website issue? That doesn't make sense. The IRS doesn't manage third-party tax software...

•Sounds like a complete waste of time. I've tried contacting the IRS before and it took HOURS just to get hung up on. No way some magical service is going to change that. And like the other person said, how would the IRS even help with third-party software?

•You're right that the IRS doesn't directly manage PriorTax, but they do have information about common error codes across tax platforms since they receive e-filed returns from all software providers. IRS representatives often know workarounds for common submission errors that the software companies themselves haven't figured out yet. I understand the skepticism about reaching the IRS - I felt exactly the same way. What Claimyr does is use a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you, then calls you when a real person is actually on the line. I know it sounds too good to be true, but I went from spending 3+ hours on hold to getting a callback within 45 minutes. It saved me days of frustration and the IRS representative I spoke with was surprisingly knowledgeable about software errors that prevent proper filing.

Alright, I need to eat my words here. After my skeptical comment about Claimyr, I decided to try it anyway since PriorTax support kept sending me in circles for days. I used Claimyr to contact the IRS and got through in about 30 minutes (vs the 2+ hours I spent last time trying on my own). The IRS agent actually knew exactly what the issue was! Apparently there's a known bug with several tax preparation websites including PriorTax when entering certain types of investment information. The agent walked me through how to clear specific browser data (not just the regular cache) and gave me a specific workaround for entering the problematic information. My return is finally processing now. Can't believe I'm saying this, but calling the IRS actually solved my problem when the tax software company couldn't.

Has anyone tried just using a different tax preparation software? I had a similar issue with PriorTax last year and ended up switching to FreeTaxUSA. Was able to import most of my information and their interface never froze up on me. Sometimes the simplest solution is just to try a different product. Just a thought!

•Did you lose any data when switching platforms? I'm worried about having to re-enter everything and potentially making mistakes. Also, does FreeTaxUSA handle complex situations like rental properties and cryptocurrency?

•I was able to import most of my W-2 information using their import feature, though I did have to manually enter some of my investment data. The process was surprisingly smooth and probably took me about an hour to complete everything I had already done in PriorTax. FreeTaxUSA definitely handles rental properties - I have two myself and had no issues entering all the Schedule E information. They also have a dedicated cryptocurrency section that worked well for me last year when I had to report some Bitcoin sales. The interface is actually more straightforward than PriorTax for these complex situations, in my opinion.

Has anyone managed to reach PriorTax customer service directly? What's the best contact method? Their website just sends me to FAQs that don't address my problem.

•I got through to them last week via their chat support, but only after waiting about 45 minutes. Try accessing the chat early in the morning (like 7am EST) when fewer people are online. Their phone support was completely useless - waited over an hour just to be told to email instead.

I had almost the exact same issue with PriorTax two weeks ago! The infinite loading on "save & go" is definitely a known bug they're dealing with. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Try using an incognito/private browsing window - this bypasses any cached data that might be corrupted 2. If you're using Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > Reset and clean up > Clean up computer and run that tool 3. Most importantly - try accessing your return through their mobile app instead of the website. For some reason the mobile version doesn't have the same JavaScript conflicts I was stuck for 4 days before discovering the mobile app workaround. All my data was still there and I could edit/save everything normally through the app. Once I completed everything on mobile, I was able to access it normally on desktop again. Don't give up on PriorTax yet - you're so close to finishing! The mobile app trick saved me from having to start over with different software.
