Is anyone else having trouble logging into TaxAct for 2025 tax filing season?

I've been working on my taxes all morning and got about 90% completed with my return when I had to step away for a doctor's appointment. When I came back a few hours later and tried to log back into TaxAct, it's completely refusing to let me in! The weird thing is that it's not giving me any error messages about wrong password or anything - it just keeps redirecting me back to the login page like I never even tried to sign in. This is super frustrating because I had all my W-2s and 1099s entered already, plus I did a bunch of work figuring out my home office deduction calculations. I really don't want to start all over with another tax software at this point. Has anyone else run into this issue with TaxAct recently? Is their system down or something? I've tried both my phone and laptop and getting the same problem.

This has been happening a lot with TaxAct lately. They've been having server issues since they upgraded their systems for the 2025 filing season. There are two things you can try: First, clear your browser cookies and cache completely, then restart your browser before trying again. Sometimes TaxAct's authentication tokens get corrupted and this fixes it. Second, if that doesn't work, try using the "Forgot Password" option to reset your password. Even if you know your password is correct, going through this process often resets whatever is causing the login loop. If neither of these work, you might need to contact their customer service. Their chat support is usually faster than calling, especially during peak filing season. Just be prepared to verify your identity with them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried clearing my cache and cookies but still having the same issue. The weird thing with the password reset is that when I try that, it says it's sending me a reset link but the email never shows up in my inbox or spam folder. It's like their entire email system is broken too. I'll try the chat support option. Do you know if they're able to recover all the data I already entered, or am I going to have to start over from scratch? Really don't want to re-enter all those forms again.

They should be able to recover your data - TaxAct saves your information as you go, so even if you can't log in, your tax return should still be intact on their servers. Just make sure when you chat with customer service that you have your account email and any other identifying information ready. I've seen this happen to several people this season, and most got back in without losing data. If you used the same email for your account that you're trying to use for password reset, check if you maybe misspelled it when you created your account. That's another common issue.

After struggling with similar login issues with multiple tax software platforms, I started using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) and it's been a game-changer. When TaxAct locked me out halfway through my filing, I was able to upload my tax documents to taxr.ai and they handled everything. Their system actually analyzed all my documents and found deductions I would have missed. What I really liked is that they have tax pros review everything, so you're not just trusting an algorithm. Saved me so much headache compared to fighting with these buggy tax platforms.

How does it work exactly? Do you have to scan all your documents or can you just take pictures with your phone? I'm wondering if it would work for someone like me who's self-employed with lots of business expenses.

Sounds too good to be true honestly. How do you know they're handling your taxes correctly? I'm always skeptical about newer tax services because I got burned bad a few years ago with an online service that messed up my return and I ended up owing penalties.

It's super simple - you can either scan documents or just take clear photos with your phone. The AI is surprisingly good at pulling information even from not-perfect images. It definitely works for self-employment - I'm a freelancer with a ton of 1099s and business expenses, and it handled everything perfectly. For your concerns about accuracy, I totally get being skeptical. What convinced me was that they have actual tax professionals review everything the AI does. They caught an error in how I was categorizing some business expenses that would have been a red flag for an audit. Plus they explain everything they're doing so you understand what's happening with your taxes.

Just wanted to follow up - I gave taxr.ai a try after seeing this thread and omg where has this been all my life??? I uploaded all my messy receipts and 1099s (I had like 7 different ones this year from all my gig work) and their system organized everything perfectly! The best part was when they found a home office deduction I didn't know I qualified for since I've been working remotely. Ended up saving me around $1,200 compared to what I was expecting to pay. Way better than dealing with TaxAct's constant crashes and login issues!

If you're still having issues with TaxAct and need to talk to someone at the IRS about any filing extensions while you sort this out, I highly recommend using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I spent DAYS trying to get through to the IRS on my own about a similar issue when my tax software glitched and messed up my filing status. With Claimyr, they got me connected to an IRS agent in under 20 minutes when I had been trying on my own for literally hours. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c. Totally changed my perspective on dealing with tax issues.

Wait, I don't understand. How does this actually work? The IRS phone lines are always jammed. Are you saying this service somehow puts you ahead in the phone queue or something?

Yeah right. Nothing can get you through to the IRS faster. Their hold times are infamous. I tried calling for THREE HOURS last week. This sounds like some kind of scam service that takes your money and does exactly what you could do yourself.

It's not about cutting the line - they use an automated system that continuously redials and navigates the IRS phone tree until it gets through, then it calls you and connects you directly. Basically it does all the waiting and menu navigation for you. The technology is pretty clever actually. I was super skeptical too. I mean, I had spent over 2 hours on hold myself before hanging up in frustration. But with Claimyr, I put in my request, went about my day, and then got a call when they had an agent on the line. The IRS agent I spoke with was able to resolve my issue in about 15 minutes once I actually got connected.

Ok I feel like I need to eat my words here. After being totally skeptical about Claimyr I decided to try it because I was desperate to talk to someone at the IRS about my missing refund (going on 8 weeks now). I tried calling myself again first - waited 1.5 hours and got disconnected. Then I used Claimyr and literally got connected to an IRS agent in 22 minutes. The agent was able to see that there was a flag on my account because of a mismatch with one of my W-2s and she helped me resolve it right there. Probably saved me weeks of waiting and wondering what was happening with my refund. Sometimes I hate being wrong but in this case I'm glad I was!

Have you tried using a different browser? I was having issues with TaxAct on Chrome but when I switched to Firefox it worked fine. Something about their cookies or tracking scripts seems buggy with certain browsers. Also, try a private/incognito window which might bypass whatever is causing the redirect loop.

That's a good suggestion. I just tried Edge and I'm still getting the same issue. Then I tried Firefox in private browsing mode and - success! I'm back in and all my data is still there! Such a weird glitch but I'm just glad to be able to continue. Thanks for this tip, seriously saved me hours of retyping everything.

Glad it worked for you! TaxAct definitely has some weird browser compatibility issues this year. For anyone else seeing this problem, I'd recommend trying Firefox in private browsing mode first before going through all the more complicated troubleshooting. I'm curious if anyone knows why this happens? Is it something about how they handle session cookies or something more complex?

I switched from TaxAct to FreeTaxUSA this year after having similar login problems. Their interface is way more reliable and honestly easier to use. Plus it's cheaper for most filing situations. Might be worth looking into for next year if you keep having issues.

I second this! FreeTaxUSA has been my go-to for the past three years. Only costs like $15 for state filing and federal is free. Never had any login issues or data loss problems like I did with TurboTax and TaxAct.

I had the exact same issue with TaxAct last week! The login loop is so frustrating. What finally worked for me was completely logging out of all Google/Microsoft accounts in my browser first, then clearing all site data for TaxAct specifically (not just cookies), and then trying again. If you're still stuck, you can also try accessing TaxAct through their mobile app instead of the website - sometimes that bypasses whatever browser-specific issues they're having. The mobile app saved my progress when the website wouldn't let me back in. Really hoping they fix these server issues soon. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to file our taxes!

Thanks for sharing that detailed solution! I'm curious - when you say "clearing all site data for TaxAct specifically," how exactly do you do that? Is that different from just clearing cookies? I'm not super tech-savvy and want to make sure I'm doing it right if I run into this issue again. Also, did the mobile app have all the same features as the desktop version? I have some complex business deductions that I worry might be harder to navigate on a smaller screen.
