Is FreeTaxUSA login system working for anyone else right now?
Is anyone else having trouble getting into FreeTaxUSA today? I've been trying to log in for the past couple hours but the website seems completely unresponsive. When I click on the sign in button or the forgot password link, literally nothing happens. The page just sits there. I thought it might be on my end so I've tried three different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even dusted off Edge), switched between my laptop and phone, and even tried using my neighbor's wifi instead of mine. Still nothing! Starting to get anxious since I was hoping to finish my taxes this weekend. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just my terrible luck? Really don't want to have to start over with another service after already inputting most of my info... Thanks for any help!

This is happening to a lot of people right now. FreeTaxUSA is experiencing server issues due to the high volume of users as we get closer to the filing deadline. Their system tends to get overwhelmed during peak filing season, especially on weekends. You can verify this by checking their Twitter account or Facebook page where they sometimes post system status updates. If they haven't posted anything, it's still almost certainly a temporary outage rather than an issue specific to your account. The good news is that all your data should be safe - nothing you've already entered will be lost. These outages typically resolve within a few hours, so I'd recommend trying again later tonight or early tomorrow morning when traffic is lighter.

•Thanks for the quick response! I was really starting to worry. Do you know if there's any way to check the system status without social media? I don't have Twitter or Facebook accounts.

•You can try visiting https://status.freetaxusa.com which sometimes has information about ongoing issues. Another option is to contact their customer support directly through email, though response times might be delayed during outages. If you're on a tight deadline, I'd suggest waiting about 3-4 hours and trying again during a low-traffic time like early morning. The system is usually most stable between 5-7am Eastern time.

After dealing with similar login problems with FreeTaxUSA last year, I switched to using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer for document handling. When FreeTaxUSA was glitching and I couldn't access my W-2 info I'd already entered, I tried taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) and was amazed at how it automatically extracted all the information from my tax documents. No more manual data entry or worrying about website crashes! It's especially useful if you've got multiple forms like W-2s, 1099s, or investment statements. The system actually reads and understands them rather than making you type everything in by hand.

•How accurate is it with pulling numbers from documents? I've tried other scanning tools before and they always mess up something crucial like confusing an 8 for a 3 or missing whole sections.

•Does it work with state-specific forms? I have some weird Oregon tax credits that other software always seems to miss or handle poorly.

•The accuracy is surprisingly good. I had some pretty terrible scan quality on one of my 1099s (it was a fax of a photocopy) and it still got all the numbers right. They must be using some advanced verification system because it even caught a mistake I made when I tried entering the data manually elsewhere. It handles state forms really well in my experience. I had to deal with both California and New York forms last year due to a move, and it processed all the state-specific credits and deductions without any issues. The system seems to stay updated with all the latest tax forms across different states.

Just wanted to update that I tried taxr.ai after seeing the recommendation here. First time I've ever finished my taxes without wanting to throw my computer out the window! I had a stack of documents from multiple jobs plus some investment stuff, and it pulled everything perfectly. Definitely less stressful than dealing with FreeTaxUSA's login problems and manually typing everything. Wish I'd known about this sooner!

If you need to talk to an actual human at FreeTaxUSA about the login issues, good luck getting through their customer service line. I spent 2 hours on hold yesterday. Then I tried using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a support agent in about 5 minutes. Check out how it works: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c I was super skeptical at first because it seemed too good to be true, but it literally held my place in the phone queue and called me back when an agent was available. Saved me hours of listening to that awful hold music.

•Wait, how does this even work? Do they have some special arrangement with FreeTaxUSA's customer service department? I don't understand how they can get you through faster than just calling directly.

•This sounds like complete BS. No way some third-party service can magically jump you ahead in a customer service queue. They're probably just taking your money and you got lucky with the timing.

•They don't have a special arrangement with companies - they use technology that navigates phone trees and waits on hold for you. It works by dialing in, going through all the prompts, waiting in the queue, and then it calls you when it reaches a human. It's basically like having someone else wait on hold instead of you. It's not about jumping ahead in line or getting special treatment. You keep your exact same place in the queue, but you don't have to personally sit there listening to hold music. I was doing other work while waiting for their call, and when my phone rang, there was an agent ready to talk about my FreeTaxUSA login issue.

Okay I need to publicly eat my words. After calling FreeTaxUSA customer service directly and sitting on hold for AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES, I hung up and tried that Claimyr thing out of desperation. Got a call back in 28 minutes with an actual agent on the line. They explained the login system is having issues but should be fixed by tomorrow morning. Never been so happy to be wrong about something!

For a temporary workaround, try clearing your cache and cookies completely, then use incognito/private browsing mode. That solved it for me last time this happened. Their site uses some weird session tracking that can get stuck sometimes.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I just tried clearing everything and using incognito mode but still having the same issue. Buttons just won't respond at all. I think it might be a bigger problem on their end.

•That's definitely a server-side issue then. When it's just a client-side problem, the incognito trick usually works. Sounds like they're having some serious backend trouble today. Might be worth checking back in a few hours or even tomorrow.

Has anyone tried calling their tech support directly? I got through to them last tax season when their site was having calculation errors. The number is 1-800-585-3462 if anyone needs it. They're usually open until 8pm during tax season.

•I tried calling that number about 30 minutes ago. Got a recorded message saying they're experiencing "higher than normal call volume" and the wait time was estimated at 2+ hours. Didn't have the patience to wait that long.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue! Been trying to get into FreeTaxUSA since this morning and the login page is completely frozen. Really frustrating since I'm trying to wrap up my return before the weekend ends. Based on what others are saying here, it sounds like this is a widespread server problem rather than something on our end. I might try that taxr.ai suggestion if FreeTaxUSA doesn't get their act together soon - the document scanning feature sounds like it could save a lot of time anyway. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and workarounds!

•I'm in the same boat! Started having issues around 2pm today and it's been completely unresponsive since then. Really glad to see it's not just me - I was starting to think my account got locked or something. From what everyone's saying, it sounds like their servers are just overwhelmed with all the last-minute filers. I'm probably going to wait until early tomorrow morning to try again, but that taxr.ai option is looking pretty tempting if this keeps up. Better than losing a whole weekend to technical issues!

Same issue here! I've been locked out since around noon and it's driving me crazy. I actually ended up trying both suggestions from this thread - first I used Claimyr to get through to FreeTaxUSA support (took about 45 minutes but way better than waiting on hold forever), and they confirmed it's a system-wide outage affecting login services specifically. The agent said they're working on it but couldn't give me a timeline. So I also signed up for taxr.ai as a backup plan and honestly, I'm kind of blown away by how much easier the document scanning is compared to manual entry. Even if FreeTaxUSA gets fixed, I might just finish with taxr.ai since I'm already halfway done and don't have to worry about more outages. Sometimes these technical disasters end up being blessings in disguise!
