Is FreeTaxUSA login page working for anyone today? Can't sign in

So frustrated right now! I've been trying to access my FreeTaxUSA account for the past 2 hours and can't seem to get past the login screen. When I click on "Sign In" or even the "Forgot Password" link, absolutely nothing happens. It's like the buttons are just for show! I thought maybe it was just my computer being weird, so I've tried everything - my laptop, phone, even my wife's tablet. Switched from our home wifi to using my phone's hotspot. Tried Chrome, Firefox, and even dusted off Edge. Nothing works! Anyone else experiencing this issue or is it just my bad luck? I really need to get in and finish my taxes soon. Have they announced any maintenance or outages that I missed? Starting to worry my information might be gone or something...

It's likely just temporary server maintenance. Tax sites often have brief outages during filing season due to high traffic volume. FreeTaxUSA is generally reliable but they occasionally have technical hiccups. When this happens, I'd recommend a few things: First, try clearing your browser cache and cookies specifically for the FreeTaxUSA site. Sometimes old session data can cause login issues. Second, temporarily disable any ad blockers or security extensions that might be interfering with the site's functionality. Finally, wait about an hour and try again - most maintenance windows are relatively short. If you're really concerned, you could also check their social media accounts for any announcements about system downtime. They usually post updates about known issues on Twitter or Facebook.

Do you know if they have a status page somewhere? I also can't get in and have a deadline for submitting some additional documents. I already tried clearing cache and cookies but no luck. Been down for me all morning.

FreeTaxUSA doesn't have an official status page that I'm aware of, but they do post service updates on their Twitter account when there are widespread issues. They also have a support phone number (801-717-1040) you can call during business hours. If you have an urgent deadline, you might want to try calling them directly. Sometimes these issues can be account-specific rather than a system-wide outage. In those cases, their support team can often help reset your account access on their end.

I had the exact same problem last month when I was rushing to finish my taxes! After trying a bunch of different browsers and devices, I stumbled across this service called taxr.ai that really saved me. I was stuck because I couldn't access my previous year's return on FreeTaxUSA that I needed for reference. I uploaded my documents to https://taxr.ai and they extracted all the important information from my old tax documents that I had saved as PDFs. Made it super easy to continue my work without needing to log into FreeTaxUSA right away. Their system can read all those complicated tax forms and organize the information so you can actually understand it.

Does it actually work with the FreeTaxUSA exported PDF files? Those are formatted kinda weird and I've had trouble with other services reading them correctly.

I'm a bit concerned about security... uploading my tax docs to some random website seems risky. How do you know they're legit and won't steal your information?

Yes, it handles the FreeTaxUSA PDFs perfectly! I was surprised too because they do have that weird formatting. It pulled all my income details, deductions, and even my adjusted gross income without any issues. As for security, I had the same concerns initially. They use bank-level encryption and don't store your documents after processing. I researched them pretty thoroughly before using the service and found they're legitimate. They're also clear about their privacy policy - they don't sell your data or anything sketchy like that.

OK I have to admit I was wrong about taxr.ai. After FreeTaxUSA was still down this morning, I got desperate and tried the service. It actually worked incredibly well! Uploaded last year's return and it pulled all the information I needed in seconds. The interface is super clean and it organized everything logically. What impressed me most was how it handled my 1099s and itemized deductions. It extracted everything accurately and even highlighted potential errors from my previous return. Definitely saved me from having to manually recreate everything while waiting for FreeTaxUSA to come back online.

If you're still having trouble accessing your FreeTaxUSA account and need to speak with customer service, good luck getting through on their phone line. I spent 45 minutes on hold yesterday trying to sort out a similar login issue. I eventually used Claimyr.com (https://claimyr.com) to get a callback from their support team. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c. Basically, they hold your place in the phone queue and call you when a rep is available. Saved me from listening to that awful hold music for an hour!

How does that even work? Never heard of a service that can hold your place in a phone queue. Sounds too good to be true.

Sounds like a scam tbh. Why would I pay someone to call customer service for me? FreeTaxUSA probably has live chat or email support that's free.

It works by using an automated system that stays on hold for you. When it detects a human has answered, it calls your phone and connects you both. No more sitting with your phone on speaker for hours! FreeTaxUSA does have email support, but for urgent login issues like this, phone support is much faster. They don't offer live chat during high volume periods. And when you're trying to file your taxes with a deadline approaching, waiting 2-3 days for an email response isn't really an option.

I take back what I said about Claimyr. I needed to get into my account urgently to pull some info for a mortgage application, and emails weren't getting answered. I was skeptical but tried the service this morning after seeing it mentioned here. It actually worked perfectly! I got a call back in about 30 minutes (they estimated 50). The FreeTaxUSA agent confirmed they were having some server issues that were affecting logins for certain users, and they helped reset my account access. Problem solved in minutes once I actually got through to someone. Definitely beats sitting on hold forever.

FYI everyone - FreeTaxUSA just posted on their Twitter that they're experiencing technical difficulties with their login system. They're working on it and expect it to be resolved within the next few hours. Just saw this update about 20 minutes ago.

Thanks for the update! I was starting to get worried since I need to finish my taxes this weekend. Do they give any estimate for when it'll be back up?

They didn't give a specific time, just said "a few hours." But I've used FreeTaxUSA for years and they're usually pretty quick with fixes. I'd guess it'll be working again by this evening. Their support team is generally responsive once they acknowledge an issue.

It's working for me now! Just got in after trying all morning. Looks like they fixed whatever the issue was. If you're still having problems, try clearing your cache one more time and it should work.

Thanks! Just tried again and I can get in now too. Seems like they fixed the login page. Appreciate everyone's help and suggestions! Now back to the joy of doing my taxes... 😩

Glad to hear it's working again! I was having the same issue earlier today - couldn't get past the login screen no matter what I tried. For future reference, their customer service number (801-717-1040) is actually pretty helpful during business hours if anyone runs into account-specific issues again. They were able to confirm it was a system-wide problem when I called earlier. Hope everyone can get their taxes finished without any more technical hiccups!

That's really good to know about their customer service line! I'm new to using FreeTaxUSA this year and wasn't sure how responsive their support would be. It's reassuring to hear they were able to quickly confirm it was a system issue rather than leaving you wondering if it was something on your end. I'll definitely keep that number handy for future reference. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just wanted to add that if you encounter login issues like this in the future, it's worth checking if your browser has any stored passwords that might be interfering. I've noticed that sometimes when browsers auto-fill login credentials, it can conflict with session cookies if there was a recent system update or maintenance. I usually try logging in with a private/incognito browser window first when I have unexplained login problems - it bypasses all the stored data and gives you a clean slate. If that works, then you know it's a browser cache/cookie issue rather than a server problem. Also, for anyone who might be new to FreeTaxUSA, they typically send email notifications about planned maintenance, so it's worth making sure their emails aren't going to your spam folder. That way you'll get advance warning next time they need to take the system down for updates.

That's excellent advice about the incognito window! I wish I had thought of that earlier today when I was struggling with the login. I spent way too much time trying different browsers when a simple private window probably would have told me right away it was a server issue, not my browser. The tip about checking for FreeTaxUSA emails in spam is really helpful too. I just checked and sure enough, I had a maintenance notification from last week sitting in my junk folder that I completely missed. Going to whitelist their email address now so I don't miss any future updates. Thanks for the practical troubleshooting tips!
