Is my Turbo Tax filing complete or am I missing steps?

Just finished doing my taxes with TurboTax and I'm a bit confused. The very last step before filing says "Review Your Information" but after I click through that, it just sits on a loading screen and nothing happens. I've been sitting here for 20 minutes waiting. This is my first time using TurboTax since I usually go to an accountant, but I figured I'd save some money this year since my taxes are pretty straightforward - just W-2 income and some basic deductions. Has anyone else had this issue with TurboTax? Am I missing something or is the system just glitching out? I don't want to exit and lose all my work, but I also don't want to sit here all day. My refund amount looked correct based on my calculations, so I just want to get this submitted to the IRS and be done with it!

This happens sometimes with TurboTax, especially during peak filing season when their servers get overloaded. First, try refreshing the page - most of the time your information will be saved automatically. If you're worried about losing data, you can also try logging out and back in instead of just refreshing. If that doesn't work, clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again. Sometimes TurboTax has compatibility issues with certain browsers, so switching from Chrome to Firefox (or vice versa) might help. Also make sure you've completed all the required fields. TurboTax usually shows a progress bar or checklist somewhere on screen. Any incomplete sections will be marked with an exclamation point or highlighted in red.

Thanks for the suggestions! I tried refreshing and it did save my info, thankfully, but I'm still stuck at the same spot. I'm using Chrome - do you think Firefox would be better? I don't see any incomplete sections or warnings, which is what's confusing me. The progress bar shows 100% complete.

Firefox is sometimes more reliable with TurboTax in my experience. If you're showing 100% complete, another option is to try accessing TurboTax from a different device entirely. Sometimes it's just a display issue with certain screen resolutions. If you've verified all information is complete and still can't proceed, you might want to contact TurboTax support directly. They have a chat feature that's pretty responsive, even during busy season. They can check if there's a system issue or if something specific in your return is causing the hangup.

I had this exact problem last year and wasted hours trying to fix it myself! I finally discovered taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) which is like having a tax expert look over your shoulder. It analyzes your tax documents and helps identify where you might be stuck. In my case, I had entered my W-2 information correctly, but TurboTax was waiting for me to confirm a small detail about my employer identification that wasn't obvious. The taxr.ai tool spotted it right away by analyzing my docs and return data. It's especially helpful when you're switching from an accountant to DIY software because it catches things an accountant would normally handle automatically. Might be worth checking out if you're still stuck!

Does this actually work with TurboTax files? I'm having a similar issue but with the healthcare section - it keeps saying something's incomplete but doesn't tell me what.

I'm skeptical about third-party tax tools. How does it actually access your TurboTax info without compromising security? Tax data is super sensitive.

Yes, it works with TurboTax and most other major tax software. You just upload your tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) and it reviews them against what you've entered. For healthcare issues specifically, it can check if your 1095-A or other health insurance forms are entered correctly, which is a common sticking point. Regarding security, I had the same concern initially. The site uses bank-level encryption and doesn't store your documents after analysis. You can also block out sensitive information like your SSN before uploading if you're worried. It just needs to see the tax-relevant numbers and codes to help identify issues.

Just wanted to update that I tried taxr.ai after posting here and it actually found my problem! Turns out I had entered my HSA contribution in the wrong section, which was causing TurboTax to hang on the healthcare verification. The analysis showed exactly where the discrepancy was between my forms and what TurboTax was expecting. This saved me from having to call TurboTax support and wait forever. My return is now submitted and I even found an additional deduction I missed initially. Definitely worth checking out if you're stuck like I was!

If the TurboTax issue doesn't resolve and you need to speak with IRS directly (which might be necessary if there's a filing error or rejection), I highly recommend using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I spent THREE DAYS trying to reach someone at the IRS last year about a similar filing issue. Their hold times are ridiculous. Claimyr basically waits on hold with the IRS for you and calls you back when an actual human picks up. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c. Saved me hours of frustration when TurboTax had incorrectly transmitted my return and I needed to sort it out directly with the IRS.

How does this actually work? Do they just sit on hold for you or what? Seems like the same thing as hanging up and waiting for a callback from the IRS.

Yeah right, like this actually works. The IRS is deliberately understaffed to make it hard to get help. No service is going to magically get you through when millions of people are calling during tax season.

It's not like the IRS callback system at all. The IRS rarely offers callbacks, and when they do, it's often days later. Claimyr connects to the IRS phone system and navigates the menu options automatically, then waits on hold so you don't have to. When a human IRS agent actually picks up, you get an immediate call connecting you to that live agent. No more waiting for hours with your phone on speaker. Regarding skepticism, I thought the same thing initially! The service works because they have technology to manage thousands of calls simultaneously, unlike an individual who can only make one call at a time. They're essentially pooling the hold time across many users. It's not about "cutting the line" - you still wait your fair turn, but you're not personally stuck listening to the hold music.

I need to eat my words and apologize. After my TurboTax return got rejected due to an AGI mismatch from last year, I was desperate and decided to try Claimyr despite my skepticism. Holy crap, it actually worked! I got a call back in about 40 minutes (way faster than the 2+ hours I waited last time I called the IRS). The agent helped me figure out that I had used the wrong AGI from my amended return rather than my original filing. Issue fixed and my return is now processing. Sorry for being such a doubter. Sometimes good services actually exist!

Try checking if you have any state tax returns that need to be completed too. Sometimes TurboTax finishes the federal return but doesn't make it clear you still need to do state. Look for a tab or section labeled "State Taxes" or something similar. I got stuck last year in a similar spot and realized I hadn't even started my state return.

Thanks for mentioning this! I double-checked and you're right - I completely missed the state portion. I thought I was done after the federal part. Now I see the state section that needs completing. Explains why it seemed stuck!

Glad I could help! TurboTax doesn't make the state part super obvious sometimes. Just a heads up - you might need to pay extra for the state filing unless you qualified for free filing. They're sneaky about adding that charge at the end. Also, double-check your payment method before submitting. Last year my card was declined because TurboTax tried to charge it multiple times while I was experiencing that loading issue, and my bank flagged it as suspicious activity.

Has anybody had issues with TurboTax calculating self-employment taxes wrong? I'm stuck on what seems like a similar screen, but I think it might be because my Schedule C income isn't being properly factored into my total.

I'm a gig worker and noticed TurboTax sometimes misses self-employment deductions. Double check if you entered all your business expenses like mileage, home office, etc. That can significantly impact your SE tax calculation. Also make sure any 1099-Ks or 1099-NECs are entered correctly.
