TurboTax Kept Asking for Line Items Like a Paper Return - Could This Delay Processing?
I would like to throw this out there and see maybe if this could be the problem. When I filled with TurboTax at the end it kept saying I had to fill in a certain line almost as if I was doing a mail-in return. Was it a glitch? Did it happen to you? I'm wondering if that could be holding us up. I've checked the IRS2Go app and WMR tool daily and still showing processing. According to TaxCaster and FreeTaxUSA calculators, I should be getting a decent refund which I really need for some upcoming medical appointments. Anyone else experience this TurboTax weirdness?

I've seen this happen with TurboTax this season. Last year I had the same issue - kept asking me to verify line 30 on Form 1040 before submission. It's not actually a mail-in return glitch, but rather TurboTax double-checking certain fields that trigger IRS review flags. In my experience, it doesn't necessarily cause delays, but it might indicate something unusual about your return that could put you in manual review. What specific line was it asking about? That might give us a clue about what's happening.

I'm... hesitant to say this because I don't want to spend money unnecessarily... but after waiting 6 weeks with no updates, I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to reach an actual IRS agent. I was nervous about it, but I got through in about 15 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. The agent told me my return was flagged for a simple verification that they hadn't even started yet. They fixed it while I was on the phone. Maybe worth considering if you're really needing that refund soon for your medical stuff?

I think I know what you're talking about! It's like when you're applying for a loan and they keep asking for the same information multiple times, right? TurboTax did something similar to me this year where it kept asking about my health insurance situation even though I had already entered all that info. I was worried it would mess things up too, but my refund was processed normally. How long has yours been pending? Mine was about 3 weeks total.

OMG this is EXACTLY what happened to me!! TurboTax kept asking me to verify line 28 (self-employment tax) even though I don't own a business! I was so frustrated! I ended up having to go through the entire form manually and check every single entry. Turns out there was some weird calculation happening in the background. I NEED my refund like yesterday for medical bills too, and I'm still waiting after filing on February 3rd! The stress is making my condition worse, I swear!

Same issue here. Line 28 verification. No business income. Called TurboTax. They said it's normal. Filed anyway. Got my refund 18 days later. No problems.

This is fascinating information about the line 28 verification process. I had no idea TurboTax had implemented this type of verification algorithm to prevent potential Schedule SE errors. The technical explanation makes perfect sense - it's essentially a fail-safe against algorithmic miscalculations in their own software!

I've identified this as a known TurboTax verification protocol triggered by certain income thresholds or deduction combinations. It's creating a Transaction Code 570 for many filers this season. IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED: If you're still waiting over 21 days, this requires manual intervention by an IRS agent to clear the hold!

I've researched this TurboTax issue extensively and found some helpful information: • This is a known verification step in TurboTax's 2024 software • It typically occurs when certain combinations of credits or deductions are claimed • It does NOT mean you're filing a paper return • It CAN indicate potential issues that might delay processing If you're concerned about your transcript or processing status, I'd recommend checking out https://taxr.ai to analyze your tax transcript. It helped me understand exactly what was happening with my return when I had a similar issue. The tool explained that the line verification in TurboTax was actually helping prevent a potential error that would have delayed my refund even more.

Are we really suggesting people need special tools to understand their own tax returns now? Isn't this exactly why tax software should be making things simpler, not more confusing? Why would anyone need to pay for another service just to explain what TurboTax should have made clear in the first place? Not trying to be difficult, but this seems like solving a problem that shouldn't exist.

I remember last year when I used H&R Block, they had a similar verification process that confused me. From what I've gathered from tax forums, these extra verification steps are actually beneficial - they're checking for common errors that trigger IRS reviews. In my previous experience, the returns that went through these extra checks actually processed faster because they had fewer issues when they reached the IRS. Have you tried checking your tax transcript directly from the IRS website? That might give you more insight than WMR.

According to the TurboTax support forum at https://ttlc.intuit.com/, this is a known issue with the 2024 software. It's related to their enhanced error-checking algorithm. The forum suggests this happens most often with returns claiming certain credits or with self-employment income. It doesn't cause delays by itself, but it might be flagging something in your return that could cause a delay. Check out the IRS processing issues page at https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations for current known processing delays.
