Jane Davis

My updated last night. There is a 766 code but not an 846 number.  The shows an amount with a minus sign, but the amount doesn't match what I filed. It looks like my education credit hasn't been added yet... So my question is, can your final refund amount change if the 846 code hasn't posted yet?

Yes, your refund amount can definitely change until you get that 846 code! The 766 code is for credits (like your education credit) and the minus sign usually means they're still processing/adjusting your return. I've seen this a bunch - they process different parts of returns separately, especially education credits since they need extra verification. Don't worry too much about the amount showing right now. Until you see that beautiful 846 code (which is your official refund issued code), the amount isn't final. BTW, if you want a really detailed analysis of your and estimated completion timeline, check out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that breaks down all these codes and gives you a pretty accurate estimate of when everything will be finished. Been recommending it to everyone in the same boat.

same thing happened to me last year! the amount changed like 3 times b4 i got my 846 🙄

0 coins

whats this taxr.ai thing? can it actually predict when ill get my refund?

0 coins

yeah its pretty legit! just uploads your docs and it tells you exactly whats going on + when to expect your money. saved me from checking like a psycho 50 times a day lol

0 coins

ok i tried taxr.ai and omg its amazing! here's what it told me: Refund Status: Processing Expected Completion: 2-3 weeks Reason for Delay: Education Credit Verification Next Update: Likely within 5-7 days it even explained all my codes! 🙌

0 coins

the education credit is always such a pain 😭 took them forever to process mine

0 coins

mine changed like 4 times before i got the 846! hang in there fam 💪

This is so helpful! I'm in a similar situation - my shows a 766 code but the amount doesn't match what I expected either. It's reassuring to know that the amount can change multiple times before the 846 code appears. I was getting worried seeing all these different numbers, but it sounds like that's totally normal during processing. Thanks for explaining how the education credits work too - I had no idea they needed extra verification time!

Hello Jane:) The 766 Code is a positive sign with a credit being issued to your account. The negative amount represents that there is a refund due back to you so no need to worry. The Code 846 will indicate that the refund has actually been issued to you and should be on its way to you as well. You should see an update with that code very soon that will actually release your refund payment.

Yes, your refund amount can definitely change if the 846 code hasn’t been issued yet. If your education credit hasn’t been added I would expect that to change soon.

3 coins

Yes definitely will change!! My sisters transcripts actually looked the same she had 766 code, plus she was on hold with code 570.  She was getting worried on the amount that was being shown on 766 since it did not match to the amount she filed and it was negative so she was worried.  We used Claimyr to call irs and lucky she spoke to a lovely man who was helping her understand what the code 766 was for and how her taxes were still being processed and she should look out for that 846 refund code which will be showing her actual amount being deposited. 🤗 -> Here’s a discount link if you would like to use Claimyr https://join.claimyr.com/be256b

The 766 code is a general code. Code 766 can show up multiple times on your transcript. It is dependent on a number of variables. Generally I would start with the date associated with with the code and the amount. You can use both the date, amount, filing status, and to potentially determine what the credit represents. Your full will tell the rest of the story for the code. It isn't necessarily your refund amount.

I already did this

what about my case . i need to recieve 13k

2 coins

How long did it take for your transcripts to update?

2 coins

Every week it’s mostly updated cycle code will tell but many has Friday update with cycle code 05 as far as I know.

2 coins

How do you know what cycle you are?

2 coins

Raheemah, on your transcripts it has a cycle code but you did mention you don’t have anything yet. No worries though, many ppl like you who have nothing on their transcripts but still see a ddd.

2 coins

You seen this

2 coins

What does this mean?

1 coin

What about 766 code without Minus

2 coins

Should be a credit being added to your refund.

3 coins

I have a date 4/6 but it’s only $233

2 coins

So #766 will be credit on to our account? So does that mean we getting that money

2 coins

Yes, it should be part of your refund.

2 coins

So does the code 766 which has a - 3,600 out beside it will effect my refund that I received in February on the 21

2 coins

Yes! It should be part of your refund.

2 coins

It’s already included in the refund that you had received in February 21.

2 coins

So I won't be getting the 3600 back individually

2 coins

No, unless you are missing a big chunk of your tax return then you need to send an amended return but that credit should have been applied to your refund you had received already.

2 coins

Already sent in an amended return

3 coins

Okay, good! :

2 coins

I'm showing a 766 code for 04/15 but already received my refund. What does this mean?

2 coins

That amount should have been added to your refund.

1 coin

So i already got it?

1 coin

Yes, you should have.

My code said it will be deposited on April 15, 20222 and was not apart of my refund

1 coin

Hi Stephanie Total refund you’re entitled to stated on code 846 Did you look 846 on 4/15?

2 coins

My 846 code was 3/22/2022. When I reviewed my it said I received a $1000 credit. Fi just want to know if I need to claim it. Or will it be automatically deposited on 4/15/2022.

1 coin

1 coin

Hi Michele 766 is a part of your credit(refund) but 766,768 type of credit eventually combine to code 846. You need to see 846 for actual direct deposit date. $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083 & choose IRS

1 coin

Hi Katie yes I got code 846 for 4/13 in haven’t got my refund yet

1 coin

We just start 4/13 morning and I assume money should be there by tonight 4/13 if there’s no bank info error or other unmatched issue. In that case, paper check will be issued.

1 coin

Ok so give it until tonight in it should be on my Emerald Card

1 coin

Yes I would wait. If there’s no other issue, it should be there. Finger crossed 🤞🏻

1 coin

My return says we get the money but have not received it

1 coin

So I already got a refund, however they didn’t pay my advance child tax credit remaining amount or my daycare pay. I have a 766 next to them, and couple more codes. It says the amount I didn’t get is set for 04-15-22. Take a look below.

2 coins

You should get an 846 code for both of those credits (766) by 4/15. I would expect a deposit in the bank a few business days afterwards. Congratulations! 💸

3 coins

I got the same thing my date says 4/15 by the minus amt

1 coin

Can anyone help me understand this? I already received my refund for 2021 tax year but sent sent a paper to fill out to get additional money from 2020 tax year. I just received 2 766 credit to your account codes but not a new 846 code. Last one was from my 2021 tax refund on 2/24/22. I’m only expecting the $1,542 back so am I getting more than that? I’m so confused!

1 coin

Is your expected credit is an advance child tax credit you claimed? It’s better to see codes on the but negative in 2022 indicates your credit. You should have 846 code by 4/15 if you expect more refund from IRS.

1 coin

The notice I received was a CP08 for additional child Tax credit.

1 coin

Looks like you have a deposit being sent 4/15, this is an adjustment after your original refund was sent. You should see it in your account a few days after it’s sent. You can also check where my refund for updates on the progress. Congrats!

1 coin

Can somebody tell me if I’ll be receiving a refund tomorrow?

1 coin

Have you checked your transcript? Look for a date on code 846 and you will receive your direct deposit. If it’s passed over 21 days or a month without any update, you may need to call IRS to find out what’s hold up. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083 & choose IRS

1 coin

I see now your post. There’s code 846 dated 2/24/22 Have you received your refund on 2/24/22? Some taxpayers received an original refund first then expect a remaining refund because irs needs to work on an adjustment credit (such as advance (or additional) child tax credit

1 coin

No there’s not a 846 code. I received my taxes on 2/24 . Is this an additional payment I’ll receive?

1 coin

Your here shows 846 “refund issued” on 2/24/22 in the middle of copy.

1 coin

Here 846.

1 coin

I would speak with IRS agent if you did not receive any with this 846 “refund issued” on the transcript.

1 coin

Nae, if your talking about codes 766 - those credits should have been applied to your refund you received on Feb 24. If you believe they weren’t added to your refund, you can definitely see if you receive it tomorrow but for most the credits we’re added to their refund.

1 coin

So is my 766 code has a date for 4/15. Is that the date I will receive my refund?

1 coin

No 766 is a child tax credit or stimulus payment claimed and it will add to 846 so look at 846 code date.

1 coin

Okay. I don’t see that yet.

1 coin

Then wait for 846 in 2022 year.

1 coin

Would it be sooner than later? I filed in January but got a letter saying I was owed more and I have a new return coming. By like may 6th. Just confused wondering if it will be soon. It says my return was processed on 3/7

1 coin

I’m sorry I’m not sure the answer but your will tell you when as soon as it is updated. You can check a transcript, a irs notice in the mail or speak with irs agent for estimates. $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083 & choose IRS

1 coin

Hello I was my new number is -7234 It was 11796 when I was first filled is that bad .?

1 coin

Hi 846 is a refund code so all your credits and adjustments (decreased or increased) is added to 846 Look at an amount and date on 846

1 coin

So this is mines I did my own taxes and I guess I didn’t claim the child tax

1 coin

I didn’t get that amount today what is the hold up if iam even getting that amount

1 coin

I have no 846 code yet can someone tell me exactly what does this mean ?

1 coin

You have code 570 on hold , 971 letter may be mailed to you. Haven’t you received any notice from irs yet?

2 coins

Katie is right, I suggest calling the IRS if you haven’t received the letter. You may be able to figure out what the issue is sooner, could be something like verifying your identity.

2 coins

Until you will see 846, irs hasn’t done your refund. You need to wait for notice from irs or wait for update on the or speak with irs agent if why there’s hold. $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083

1 coin

I identify my identity already and they sent me a letter saying Thankyou for completing the process

1 coin

When was a last letter sent to you?

1 coin

After identity verification, it may take 2-9 weeks and some people got updated within 3 weeks so if it’s in your case, call irs to check and see your update.

1 coin

Last week I check my transcripts daily they sent a letter to me saying Thankyou and that’s all I received so far

1 coin

Then soon irs will finish your refund and your refund code 846 will be on the transcript. Identity verification takes about 9 weeks. Some people got a refund within 2-3 weeks. Hang tight.

1 coin

I got the letter a couple weeks ago my apologies I just looked at the date

1 coin

So I received my refund on March 2nd. Lines 766 and 768 have a date of. April 15,2022. Should I be expecting a payment today or no?

1 coin

No, those credits circled should have been applied in your refund amount. Unless you think they were not added then I would suggest speaking with a rep to see if you would be receiving them later on.

1 coin

Like Leilani said, if you’re not sure and want to speak with IRS for further issue, call is necessary. $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083 & choose IRS

1 coin

Hey Katie, so when I first filed it said I would receive 7874, then it got adjusted to 6774. Also I was wondering about the lines 766 and 768 because I received my return on 3-2-22 but it’s showing credit to my account and earned income credit for 4-15-22. If they did owe me money would it automatically deposit or would I have to claim it?

1 coin

Don, I just did the math & looks like those credits have been applied already to your refund sent 3/02. So the amount $6,774 is your original amount and might have been a mistake was done when filing your taxes and $1100 was taken out.

3 coins

Don, IRS reviews your tax and if they see you’re qualified CTC or but if those are not claimed, they will hold your refund and send you a notice in the mail to inform you. So basically irs mails a notice for adjustment to increase or decrease a refund. Decrease happens when you have past taxes due or other debt. I’ve seen someone received a letter. She forgot to claim her CTC and CP12 notice was sent to her.  If you’re questioning about your refund and can’t wait for update, I would like to suggest calling irs.  I’m also a type of person who double checked with irs rep not just waiting so it’s up to you. $5 discount link for first time call https://join.claimyr.com/49a083 & choose IRS

1 coin

I replied and it’s gone to the wind.

1 coin

Gone with the wind

1 coin

Don, I think Leilani answered it for you. I’ve seen some taxpayers forgot to claim an earned income tax credit and irs sent a notice to inform her.  Refund can be changed when IRS finds some errors to fix or adjust.

2 coins

Am i do a refund of 5100?

1 coin

Will I receive the 7,200??? When we filed we got a different number than we received.

1 coin

You did receive it in your refund that you got 03/09, you won’t be receiving a different deposit.

1 coin

I filed on 02/19/2022 and was accepted by IRS the same day .. No dependants just W2's. One would think by me filing a simple return that I would've received by refund by now . Instead , whenever I check on refund status , the code 152 shows . Smh . I called Irs and was told not to contact them and that they have 60 days to review my taxes. I don't understand what there is to review .

1 coin

Tax topic 152 simply means it’s still being processed. The IRS is still behind on a lot of returns, I hope you see some movement soon. Have you checked your transcripts to be sure you have no other issues?

1 coin

I don't know how to.do that

1 coin

It’s pretty simple, just visit this website and sign up for an account. Take screenshots of them and post them here on the community so we can help you decipher them. 😊

1 coin

Hello I see 766 code for 4/15 but no refund date scheduled on my transcript. Is there any hope I am getting my return soon?

1 coin

Shouldn’t there be a refund issue date that is posted before the 766 credit to my account code?

1 coin

Those credits will be applied towards your refund. I’m guessing you also have a 570 code under the 971, have you called irs to speak with a rep about the hold on your taxes processing which is for code 570.

1 coin

No one will answer me! I was sent a letter a while back noting the adjustment to my return but that was in March. I filed 2/01

1 coin

It was resolved as of 3-21

1 coin

Okay good! So I’m guessing you got your direct deposit already?
