Question about IRS Code 766 - Understanding Credit Amount vs Federal Refund

Noticed a 766 code on my transcript with a decent amount next to it. Does this mean I'm getting this amount back on top of my regular refund? Kind of confused about how these credits work and if this is additional money coming my way.

The 766 code indicates a credit that was applied to your account. However, this credit is already factored into your total refund amount - it's not additional money on top of your expected refund. It's just showing you one of the components that made up your total refund calculation.

Hey guys instead of trying to decode these transcripts manually, I've been using taxr.ai - its only $1 and breaks down exactly what each code means for your specific situation and when you can expect your refund. Way better than playing detective with these codes

Look at your 150 code - that's your total tax liability. Then the 766 and other credits reduce that amount. Whatever's left is what you get back. Its not extra money unfortunately
