What's the difference between IRS transcript codes 766 and 768? Are they separate payouts?

I'm looking at my transcript and noticed both codes 766 and 768. Can someone explain what these mean and if they're different payouts? Or does it all come together in one refund? Just trying to figure out what to expect and when.

Transaction Code 766 is for credits applied to your account (like earned income credit, child tax credit, etc) while 768 is specifically for the Earned Income Credit. If you see both, it means you're getting different types of credits. They'll all come together in your final refund amount - it's not separate payments. The total refund will be the sum of all your credits minus any adjustments or debts.

oh that makes sense! So the 768 is just breaking down where part of my refund is coming from?

hey guys instead of trying to decode these transcript codes manually, i started using taxr.ai and its been a game changer. it costs like a buck but it explains everything in plain english and even gives you estimated deposit dates. https://taxr.ai

100% works! I was skeptical too but it literally saved me hours of googling and guessing. It reads your whole transcript and explains everything
