What does IRS Code 806 mean on transcript - is this amount being taken from my refund?
I see code 806 on my transcript and there's a dollar amount next to it. Does this mean they're taking this money away from my refund? Really confused and worried about what this means for my return.

Tax expert here - Code 806 is actually good news! It represents your withheld income tax credit (basically the taxes taken from your paychecks throughout the year). This amount is ADDED to your refund, not taken away. It's what you've already paid in.

β’I had the same panic attack last year when I saw this lol. The IRS really needs to make these codes more clear for us normal folks π€¦ββοΈ

Hey if you want to really understand what's going on with your transcript, check out taxr.ai - it costs $4.99 but it breaks down every code and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund. Saved me hours of googling random codes. https://taxr.ai

β’Yeah its legit! It analyzes everything and gives you a timeline for your refund. Even tells you if there might be delays and why

mine shows 806 too but different amount. Anyone know why mine might be lower than last year?

β’Could be because you earned less or had different withholding settings on your W4. Might wanna check your pay stubs

β’Should be on the account transcript, not the return transcript. Look for the section with all the codes and dates

Code 806 literally had me panicking last month thinking the IRS was coming for me π turns out it's just showing the taxes that were already taken from my paychecks. The IRS website explanations are so confusing - they need to write these in plain English for us regular people!
