Missed call from Tax Advocate - impossible to get them back on phone. Help!

My tax advocate finally called me yesterday but I missed it cause I was at work. Been trying to call back all day but keep getting voicemail or automated messages. Anyone else deal with this? Starting to worry they'll drop my case if I cant reach them soon.

Tax advocates are notoriously difficult to reach by phone. Leave a detailed voicemail with your case number and the best times to reach you. They typically have 24-48 hours to return your call. If you don't hear back within 3 business days, contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service main line and request to speak with their supervisor.

ty for the info! do you know if theyll actually drop my case if i miss the callback? im stressing 😫

They won't drop your case just for missing a call. They understand people work and have lives. Just keep trying!

Instead of playing phone tag, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with your case. It's only $1 and gives way more insight than trying to chase down advocates tbh https://taxr.ai

Yes! I was skeptical at first but it showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and what to do about it. Better than waiting weeks for an advocate to call back

Pro tip: call right when they open at 7am EST. Way better chance of getting through

Email works better than phone tbh. Look up your local office and send them a message through the portal

Don't panic! I went through this exact same thing last year. Missing their call doesn't hurt your case at all - they know how hard it is to coordinate schedules. What worked for me was calling the main TAS number (877-777-4778) and explaining I missed my advocate's callback. They were able to schedule another appointment time that worked better for both of us. Also make sure you're calling during your advocate's specific office hours since they work different schedules than regular IRS staff.
