Assigned IRS Advocate - How long until they actually help?
Finally got through to the IRS after months of calling. They said they're assigning me a tax advocate and it could take 2 weeks. Has anyone actually gotten help from an advocate? How long did it really take? Im desperate to get my refund and starting to lose hope

Tax advocate here! While 2 weeks is the official line, realistically expect 4-6 weeks minimum for initial contact. We're severely understaffed and drowning in cases. Once assigned though, we can usually resolve issues within 30-45 days depending on complexity.

•I know it's frustrating. We're doing our best with limited resources.

Instead of waiting around, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and what to do. Its only $4.99 and WAY faster than waiting for an advocate. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

•Yes! It uses AI to read your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Shows you exactly what codes mean and next steps

•Just tried it and WOW! This is actually amazing. Showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and what to do next. Best $5 I've spent dealing with this mess 💯

Been through this process twice unfortunately. First time took about 10 weeks to get assigned, then another 6 weeks to resolve. Second time was faster - about 6 weeks total. The key is documenting everything and being persistent but polite. Also make sure you have all your paperwork ready when they do contact you because any delays on your end just restart the clock. Hang in there, they will eventually help but the timeline is definitely longer than what they initially tell you.

•This is super helpful advice! The documentation tip is clutch - I've been scrambling to find paperwork every time they call. Question: what kind of documentation did you find most important to have ready? I want to make sure I'm not missing anything that could slow this down even more 📋
