IRS Refund Delay: Filed in February, Still Waiting After 60-Day Review Letter - How to Get Answers?
Has anyone else been waiting forever for their tax refund? I filed back in February and got a letter in April saying my return was under review for 60 days. It's been way longer than that now and I still haven't heard anything! The letter didn't even say what the problem was, just that I didn't need to do anything. I'm so frustrated. Anyone know how to actually get answers from the IRS?

As someone who deals with these situations daily, receiving a 60-day review letter in February can be super frustrating. The IRS is likely conducting additional verification on your return, which could be related to credits claimed, income verification, or identity confirmation. While the standard 60-day timeframe has passed, many reviews are taking 120+ days this year due to backlog. I've seen this exact situation hundreds of times, and the best thing you can do right now is get a clear picture of whats actually happening with your return. I highly recommend checking out taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) - its an AI tool that can analyze your transcripts and tell you exactly why your refund is delayed and when you can expect it. It'll break down any verification holds, processing delays, or other issues that might be affecting your refund. Way better than trying to get through to the IRS phone line or guessing what's happening.

•Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: My refund was flagged for income verification but should be released in next 2-3 weeks based on similar cases. Super helpful actually!

•how does taxr work? does it just read transcripts or what?

•It analyzes your full tax docs - transcripts, returns, letters etc and uses AI to figure out exactly whats going on. Pretty wild actually how detailed it gets!

One option to consider is using Claimyr, as others have mentioned in this thread. It's a service that helps skip the wait time by navigating the IRS phone menu and connecting you directly to a live agent. For $20, it might be worth the convenience for some, especially if you've exhausted other free options. While Claimyr has helped many, it doesn’t guarantee faster processing of your returns, just quicker access to human assistance. This can still be tremendously helpful if you need specific answers or guidance. However, it’s important to manage expectations; using such a service won’t expedite your refund itself, but it could provide some peace of mind knowing you’ve spoken to someone who might clarify outstanding issues. Always ensure to double-check reviews and alternative solutions like the Taxpayer Advocate Service or even contacting local congressional offices which might assist with your case without any charge.

I work for a tax prep company (not the IRS). Here's some insider info: 1. The IRS is WAY behind. Like, years behind in some cases. 2. Covid made everything worse. They're still catching up. 3. If you claimed certain credits (like EITC or ACTC), your refund might be delayed. 4. Sometimes, no news is good news. If there was a big problem, they'd probably let you know. 5. Keep all your documents handy. You might need them if they do contact you. Hope this helps!

Has anyone tried faxing their return? I know it sounds crazy, but I've heard it can be faster than mailing or e-filing

I feel your pain. Been there, done that. Here's what I've learned from my experience: • The IRS is severely understaffed and overworked. This means longer wait times for everyone. • That 60-day review letter is pretty standard. It doesn't mean there's a problem, just that they're taking a closer look. • Sometimes, returns get flagged for identity verification. This can add weeks or months to processing time. • If it's been more than 21 days since you e-filed (or 6 weeks for paper returns), you can try checking your refund status on the IRS website. • As a last resort, you can try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They're an independent org within the IRS that helps resolve issues. Hang in there! It's frustrating, but your refund will come eventually.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

I totally feel your frustration! I'm in a similar situation - filed in January and got that dreaded 60-day review letter in March. It's now been way longer than 60 days and I'm still waiting too. The worst part is not knowing WHY they're reviewing it or what they need from me. From what I've learned lurking in forums like this, the IRS is massively backlogged and those 60-day letters are basically just buying them more time. Some people are waiting 6+ months even after getting that letter. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to wait this long for our own money back! I've been checking the "Where's My Refund" tool obsessively but it just says the same thing every time. At this point I'm considering reaching out to my local congressman's office since I heard they can sometimes help expedite things when the IRS is being unresponsive for this long. Hang in there - hopefully we'll both get some answers soon! 🤞

•Ugh, I'm so sorry you're going through this too! It's crazy that we're all in the same boat waiting months and months for our own money. I filed in March and got my 60-day letter in May, so I'm right there with you. The lack of communication is the worst part - like, just tell us what the holdup is! I've been thinking about contacting my congressman's office too. Have you found any info on how to do that or what they can actually help with? At this point I'm willing to try anything. This whole system is just broken. Thanks for sharing your experience - it helps to know I'm not alone in this nightmare!

•I'm dealing with the exact same thing! Filed in February, got that vague 60-day letter in April, and here we are months later with absolutely nothing. The silence is maddening - like you said, just tell us what's wrong! For contacting your congressman, you can usually find a "Help with Federal Agencies" section on their website where you can submit a case. They have staff specifically for dealing with IRS issues and can sometimes get answers when we can't. You'll need to provide your SSN, copies of your return, and that review letter. I actually just submitted a case with my rep's office last week after seeing so many people here say it helped. Fingers crossed it moves things along! We shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops just to get our own money back. This whole system is absolutely broken. 😤
