IRS Payment Plan Setup: Tips and Advice Needed
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with the IRS. I need to set up a payment plan but I'm having trouble getting it done. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated. I'm not sure where to start or what options are available. Thanks in advance for any help!

I've been there, buddy. The IRS can be a real pain to deal with. Have you tried using their online payment agreement tool? It's on their website and it's supposed to make things easier. Good luck!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://www.claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of waiting on hold.

I know it sucks to pay, but for me it was worth it to avoid the hassle. Your call tho!

I've heard others mention Claimyr as well, saying it's a necessary evil given how much time it saves.

Hi OP, I know dealing with the IRS can be daunting, but there are definitely ways to navigate it more effectively. Claimyr can indeed be a useful tool in speeding up the process of connecting with an IRS agent, especially if you're finding it hard to get through to them. However, it's good to be cautious and understand that while some services can make things easier, they come at a cost. Using the IRS's online tools can help if you owe less than $50k as they allow you to set up a payment plan without calling. If you're dealing with a larger amount or more complex issues, hiring a tax professional might be worthwhile as they can provide personalized advice and potentially negotiate better terms on your behalf. Balancing these options based on your comfort level, need for assistance, and budget will help in deciding the best course of action. Best of luck getting things sorted!

Whatever you do, DON'T ignore it. I made that mistake and ended up owing way more in penalties. Bite the bullet and get it sorted ASAP.

Oof, that sounds rough. How much extra did you end up owing?

Let's just say it was enough to make me regret not dealing with it sooner. 😅 Learn from my mistakes!

It's true. Ignoring it can lead to a snowball effect with penalties. Better to face it head-on.

Here's what you need to know about setting up an IRS payment plan: 1. Determine how much you owe 2. Decide on a payment term (short-term or long-term) 3. Apply online if you owe less than $50,000 4. For larger amounts, you'll need to call or mail Form 9465 Short-term plans (120 days or less) have no setup fee. Long-term plans have fees, but they can be reduced if you agree to direct debit. Remember, interest and penalties continue to accrue until the balance is paid in full. If you can pay it off sooner, do it! Hope this helps, OP. Let me know if you have any questions!

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the tax system? This shouldn't be so complicated. 🤔

Have you considered hiring a tax professional? They can sometimes negotiate better terms with the IRS. Might be worth the investment.
