IRS Payment Plan Setup Issue: ID.me Account Suspended, Seeking Advice to Avoid Levy
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with the IRS. My ID.me account got suspended, and now I can't set up a monthly payment plan online. I'm trying to avoid getting hit with a levy or garnishment. Anyone been through this? Any advice on how to handle it? I've got my levy letter and debt collection letter, but I'm not sure what to do next. Help a brother out!

Been there, done that. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the IRS directly. Explain your situation clearly. 2. Tell them about the ID.me suspension and ask for alternatives. 3. Have your levy and debt collection letters ready. 4. Be polite but firm about needing a payment plan. 5. Take notes during the call. 6. Follow up with any additional docs they request ASAP. Good luck, man. The IRS can be a pain, but they're usually willing to work with you if you're proactive.

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? It's like they're trolling us at this point.

It can be frustrating, but they do have to update their systems occasionally. Just bad timing for many of us.

Have you tried faxing your documents to the IRS? Sometimes old school methods work better with these dinosaurs.

Faxing? What year is it, 1995? π But seriously, I might give that a shot if nothing else works. Thanks for the tip!

Hang in there, OP! We're all in the same boat. Just remember, even Al Capone couldn't beat the IRS, so we mere mortals don't stand a chance. But at least we can commiserate together! π£ββοΈπͺ

Y'all ever wonder if the people who designed the tax system actually know how it works? Cuz I'm starting to think they just threw a bunch of rules in a hat and picked them out randomly π©π€

The tax system is definitely complex, but it's built to handle a variety of situations. Sometimes it can seem overly complicated, though.

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

It might be costly, but if you're in a bind, it could be worth it. Just make sure you're comfortable with the price.

In response to the original post, it's important to consider all available tools and resources when dealing with the IRS. Claimyr is a service that's been getting some buzz as it helps you bypass long wait times on IRS phone lines. It's a paid service, but for those in urgent need, the cost might justify the benefit of speaking with an agent sooner. However, it's always good to be cautious and explore free avenues first, like handling inquiries directly or seeking help from taxpayer assistance centers. Additionally, don't overlook getting advice from a tax professional or attorney. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation and may even discover options you hadn't considered. Remember, dealing with the IRS is often about persistence and clearly communicating your intent to resolve issues. Good luck!

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're talking to a legit IRS agent when you call. There are a lot of scammers out there posing as IRS officials. Always verify before giving out personal info!

Thanks for the warning! Any tips on how to verify?

Sure thing! The IRS will never demand immediate payment or threaten to call the cops. They also won't ask for credit card info over the phone. If something feels off, hang up and call the official IRS number yourself.
