IRS Identity Verification Letter Not Going Through - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble verifying my identity with the IRS. I tried to verify my letter but it didn't go through. Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to make sure everything is good on my end. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, I've been there. The IRS identity verification process is a nightmare. Have you tried calling them directly? Sometimes that's the only way to get it sorted out.

•I've been trying to call but can't get through. The hold times are insane 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have better luck getting through.

•Good idea! Also, make sure you have all your docs ready before you call. They'll ask for a ton of info.

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Trust me, after spending days trying to get through, $20 was a small price to pay. Time is money, ya know? 💯

Have you checked if there's an online portal for identity verification? Sometimes they have alternatives to mailing in documents.

I had the same issue last year. Turns out there was a typo in my address on the letter they sent me. Double-check all the info on your letter matches your records exactly.

Here's what worked for me: 1. Double-check all info on your letter 2. Try the online verification tool at irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients 3. If that fails, call early in the morning (right when they open) 4. Have all your docs ready: SSN, filing status, last year's return, etc. 5. Be patient and polite with the agent (they deal with angry people all day) 6. If all else fails, you might need to visit a local IRS office in person Hope this helps! The process is a pain, but you'll get through it eventually.

Has anyone tried faxing their documents? I heard that sometimes works better than mailing.

•What year is it? 1995? Who even has a fax machine anymore? 🤣

Just a heads up, there's been a lot of identity theft scams lately. Make sure you're only using official IRS channels to verify your identity. Don't give out personal info to anyone who calls or emails you claiming to be from the IRS.
