Need help verifying IRS tax return - what docs do I need?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble verifying my tax return with the IRS. Has anyone else gone through this process recently? I'm not sure what documents I need or how to proceed. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I went through this last year and it was a nightmare. Have you tried using the IRS website? They have a section for verifying returns, but it's about as clear as mud.

•Thanks for the tip! I tried the website but got lost in all the jargon. Did you end up calling them?

•Yeah, I had to call eventually. Spent hours on hold tho 😫 Bring a book or something if you decide to go that route!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Less wait time usually.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours, but I was able to do other stuff instead of being stuck on hold. Worth it imo.

Here's what you need to do to verify your tax return: 1. Gather all your documents: W-2s, 1099s, receipts for deductions, etc. 2. Make sure you have a copy of the tax return in question 3. Call the IRS Taxpayer Protection Program at 1-800-830-5084 4. Be prepared to answer identity verification questions 5. If asked, fax or mail supporting documents Remember, the IRS NEVER initiates contact via email or social media. If you got a message there, it's probably a scam.

•Great advice! I'd add that keeping a log of all communications with the IRS is super helpful too.

Have you considered using a tax professional? They can often navigate the system more efficiently and might save you time in the long run.

•I hadn't thought of that. Do you have any recommendations for finding a good tax pro?

•Check with the National Association of Enrolled Agents or ask for referrals from friends. Just make sure they're licensed!

PSA: Be careful of scams! Lots of people pretending to be from the IRS this time of year. Always verify who youre talking to.

•In the same boat. Why can't they just simplify the whole process? 🤔
