IRS Identity Verification Nightmare - Need Help ASAP!
Hey everyone, I'm trying to verify my identity with the IRS for tax purposes, but I'm running into some issues. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated. I'm not sure what to expect or how long it usually takes.

Ugh, I just went through this nightmare. It took me weeks to get everything sorted out. The online system kept glitching on me, so I had to call them. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours. 😫

Weeks?! That's insane. Did you try using their ID.me system? I heard it's supposed to make things easier.

Yeah, I tried ID.me first, but it wouldn't accept my documents for some reason. That's why I had to call. The whole system is a mess tbh.

Same here! ID.me was a total fail for me. Ended up having to mail in physical copies of everything. 🙄

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Idk man, paying to get through to a government agency? Seems sketchy.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. They even refund you if it doesn't work.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through to an agent in about 45 minutes without having to sit by my phone. 👍

Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your documents beforehand (SSN, ID, tax returns, etc.) 2. Try the online verification first through ID.me 3. If that fails, call early in the morning (right when they open) 4. Be patient and polite with the agents 5. If all else fails, you might need to visit a local IRS office Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling early tomorrow morning. Did you need to bring any specific documents to the IRS office?

Glad to help! For the IRS office, bring your SSN card, a valid photo ID, and copies of your tax returns if possible. Better to have too much than not enough!

Has anyone tried using a tax advocate service? I've heard they can sometimes help speed up the process.

I used one last year and it was a game-changer! They really know how to navigate the system.

It wasn't cheap, but considering the time and stress it saved me, totally worth it. Plus, I got my refund way faster.

Pro tip: Check if your state has a taxpayer advocate office. They can sometimes help with federal tax issues too, and it's usually free!

Anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to be as frustrating as possible? It's like they want us to give up on getting our refunds. 🤔

Preach! 🙌 I swear they make it complicated on purpose.

Nah, I think it's just outdated systems and underfunding. Still sucks tho.
