IRS Verification Process: Identity Check or Doc Submission? Need Advice!
Hey everyone, I need to do an IRS verification and I'm not sure what to expect. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Is it for identity confirmation or document submission? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

I just went through this last month. It's usually for identity confirmation, but sometimes they ask for additional documents too. Be prepared for both! Make sure you have your last year's tax return, Social Security card, and a valid photo ID handy. Good luck!

•This is good advice. I'd also suggest having your W-2 forms from the last couple years if you can. They asked me for those too.

•Oh yeah, good point about the W-2s! And @profile3, don't feel bad. The IRS doesn't exactly make this stuff clear upfront. We're all just trying to figure it out together 😅

Heads up, the wait times are INSANE rn. I was on hold for like 3 hours last week. Might wanna clear your schedule for the day lol

I found a way to skip the hold time! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of waiting. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call...

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after trying to get through for days. The $20 was worth it to me for the time I saved. But yeah, do what works for you!

•Just tried it and it worked! Got through in like 30 mins instead of 3 hours. Thx for the tip! 🙌

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. The wait times are usually shorter then. Also, be super nice to the agent you get - they deal with angry people all day and being friendly can go a long way!

•This! 💯 I used to work in customer service and being nice makes SUCH a difference. They might even go the extra mile to help you out.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to verify our identity with the IRS? Like, they already have all our info, why make it so complicated? 🙄

•Preach! 🙌 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's 2023, why can't we just do this stuff online?

•I hear ya, but with all the identity theft going on these days, I kinda get why they're being extra careful. Still a pain tho

Quick question - does anyone know if this verification thing affects your refund timeline? I'm still waiting on mine and wondering if this is gonna delay it even more 😩

•In my experience, it can delay things a bit. Took about an extra 3 weeks after I did the verification for my refund to come through. Hang in there!

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're actually talking to the IRS. There are a lot of scams out there. Always call the official number on the IRS website and never give out personal info if they call you first.
