Need help with IRS verification process - what docs required?
Hey everyone, I need some help with IRS verification. Has anyone gone through this process recently? What kind of documents did you need to provide? I'm feeling a bit lost and could use some guidance.

Ugh, IRS verification is such a pain. I had to go through it last year. They asked for my W-2s, 1099s, and bank statements from the past three years. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you start!

•Three years?! That seems excessive. I only had to provide one year's worth of docs when I did it. Maybe it depends on your situation?

I found a method to get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♀️

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imho

•Interesting. How long did you have to wait before they connected you?

•It took about 45 minutes total. Way better than the 3+ hours I spent trying to get through on my own!

Here's a comprehensive guide for IRS verification based on my experience: 1. Gather all tax returns for the past 3 years 2. Collect W-2s, 1099s, and any other income statements 3. Bank statements (checking and savings) for the verification period 4. Investment account statements 5. Any correspondence you've had with the IRS 6. Proof of address (utility bills, lease agreement, etc.) 7. Social Security card or ITIN letter Pro tip: Organize everything chronologically and make copies. The IRS can be slow, so you might need to resend stuff. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

•Wow, thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful. I'll start gathering everything right away. Quick question - do you know if they accept digital copies or do they need physical documents?

•Glad I could help! In my experience, they preferred physical copies. But with COVID, they might be more flexible now. Best to call and ask to be sure.

•Preach! 🙌 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's 2023, why isn't this stuff automated yet?

•Ikr? Other countries have it so much easier. My friend in Norway says their taxes are basically done for them. We're living in the stone age here 😩

Has anyone tried using a CPA for this? I'm thinking about hiring one to handle all this verification stuff for me. Is it worth the cost?

•I used a CPA last year and it was a game-changer. They knew exactly what docs to gather and how to present everything. Saved me so much stress!

•Depends on how complicated your finances are. If you've got a bunch of investments or own a business, definitely go for it. Otherwise, you might be able to handle it yourself with some research.

Quick tip: If you're having trouble reaching the IRS, try calling right when they open in the morning. I got through in like 10 minutes doing that!

OP, whatever you do, DO NOT ignore any IRS letters or deadlines. I made that mistake and ended up with a huge penalty. Stay on top of it!
