IRS Identity Verification Nightmare - Need Help Preparing for Call
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with IRS identity verification. Has anyone gone through this process before? I'm not sure what documents I need to provide or how to prepare for the call with the IRS agent. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I went through this nightmare last year. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready before the call. They'll ask for things like your social security card, driver's license, and recent tax returns. Also, be prepared to answer some weird questions about your past addresses and employment history. Good luck!

•This ⬆️ 💯 They asked me about a car I owned like 10 years ago. Who remembers that stuff??

•Wow, I didn't realize they'd go that far back. Thanks for the heads up! Guess I'll be digging through some old files tonight 😅

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than being stuck on hold yourself!

Pro tip: Use the IRS website to schedule an appointment at your local office. It's way easier than trying to get through on the phone. Just make sure you bring every possible document you might need.

Here's a comprehensive guide for IRS identity verification: 1. Gather all necessary documents: - Social Security card - Driver's license or state ID - Passport (if you have one) - Recent tax returns (last 3 years) - W-2 forms or 1099 forms - Birth certificate - Utility bills or bank statements showing your current address 2. Prepare for security questions: - Review your credit report for past addresses and employment - Make a list of vehicles you've owned - Recall names of past employers and dates of employment - Remember details about past loans or credit cards 3. During the call: - Stay calm and patient - Answer questions honestly - if you're unsure, say so - Take notes of the agent's name and any case numbers provided - Ask for clarification if you don't understand something 4. Follow-up: - If they request additional documents, send them promptly - Keep all correspondence and make copies of everything you send Remember, the process can take time. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, consider using a call-back service or scheduling an in-person appointment at your local IRS office. Good luck!

•Great advice! I'd add: record the call if it's legal in your state. It's saved my butt before when dealing with gov agencies.

Has anyone tried using one of those identity protection services? wondering if it might help streamline the process...

•I use LifeLock. It's okay for general identity protection, but didn't really help with IRS stuff specifically.

•Those services are a waste of money imo. Just freeze your credit for free and keep an eye on your accounts yourself.
