IRS Identity Verification Process - What to Expect and How to Prepare?
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an IRS identity verification issue. I've got all the documents they asked for in their letter, but I'm nervous about the call. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any tips on what to expect or how to prepare? I want to make sure I don't mess anything up!

Been there, done that. It's not as scary as it sounds! Just make sure you have ALL the docs they asked for. They'll probably ask you to verify some info from your past tax returns, so maybe have those handy too. Good luck!

ā¢Thanks for the reassurance! Did they ask you any tricky questions? I'm worried I might forget something important.

ā¢Nah, nothing too wild. Just basic stuff like past addresses, employers, etc. If you've got your docs, you'll be fine. Deep breaths! š

Ugh, the IRS is such a pain. I had to do this last year and it took FOREVER to get through to someone. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours.

ā¢Pro tip: I found a way to skip the hold time. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the IRS, stays on hold, and then calls you when a real person picks up. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

ā¢Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical too, but it worked like a charm. Saved me from losing my mind to that hold music lol

Make sure you're calling the right number! I accidentally called the wrong department and wasted a whole afternoon. Double-check the letter for the correct contact info.

I went through this a few months ago. Here's what to expect: ⢠They'll ask for your personal info (name, SSN, DOB, address) ⢠Verify info from your most recent tax return ⢠Might ask about specific forms you've filed ⢠Questions about your employment history ⢠Sometimes they ask about loans or credit cards Just stay calm, answer honestly, and don't be afraid to say "I don't know" if you're unsure. They're not trying to trick you, just confirm your identity. Good luck!

Quick question - did your letter have a specific deadline? Mine did and I almost missed it. Make sure you're not running out of time!

ā¢Oh shoot, I didn't even think to check for a deadline. Thanks for the heads up, I'll double-check right now!

PSA: Be careful of scams! The IRS will NEVER ask for payment over the phone. If anyone tries to get you to pay something during the call, hang up immediately!
