Ugh, been there done that. It's a total pain in the butt. Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Good luck getting through tho, their hold times are insane 🙄

I went through this last year. Here's what you need to know: • First, check if you received a 5071C, 5747C, or 5447C letter. These are the typical identity verification notices. • If you didn't get a letter, you might still need to verify your identity if you tried to e-file and got rejected. • You can use the Identity Verification Service online at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification • If online doesn't work, you'll need to call the Identity Verification phone number: 800-830-5084 • Have your prior year tax return, current year tax return, and the letter (if you received one) ready when you call. • They might ask for stuff like your filing status, address, date of birth, and info from your W-2 or 1099. Just went thru this. It took me 3 months to get it sorted out. Hang in there OP, it's a long and frustrating process but you'll get through it eventually.

Has anyone tried using a tax advocate service for this kinda thing? I've heard they can sometimes help speed up the process.

pro tip: keep a detailed log of all your calls, who you talked to, and what they said. It'll save you a ton of headaches later if you need to follow up or if theres any discrepancies
