ID Verification Timeline? Completed In-Person Verification Today

So I went in person today to verify my identity. I waited exactly 47 minutes at the IRS office before being called. The appointment itself took 23 minutes from start to finish. How long does it take for processing after verification? Has anyone gone in to verify their identity recently? And how many days did it take for your account to update? Would really appreciate exact timeframes if possible, as I need to plan my budget for the semester precisely.

I had to verify my identity on March 14th this year. The IRS told me it would take 9 weeks, but my account actually updated after 21 days exactly. Once it updated, my refund was issued 7 days later. The verification process is separate from the normal processing timeline, so even after verification they still need to process your actual return. Hang in there - it's frustrating but there is a process they follow.

My experience was somewhat similar, though perhaps a bit faster. I verified on February 9th, and my transcript updated approximately 18 days later. The process seems to vary somewhat depending on the complexity of your return and possibly the regional processing center handling your case.

Took wayyy longer for me tbh. Verified in person on Jan 30 and didn't see movement until Mar 12. Almost 6 wks! Depends on ur return complexity I guess. Had EIC and some 1099 income so that prob slowed things down. Hang tight OP, it'll come eventually!

I went through this exact same nightmare last year! 😩 Waited forever at the office (brought a book, thank goodness), and then spent weeks refreshing my transcript obsessively. Finally discovered https://taxr.ai which helped me understand what all those weird codes on my transcript meant after it updated. It explained that the 971 verification code was completed and predicted my DDD accurately. Made the waiting game slightly less painful when I could actually understand what was happening behind the scenes! Wish I'd known about it earlier in the process.

Timeline varies. Some get updates in 2 weeks. Others wait 8+ weeks. No consistency. If you need to speak with someone, don't waste days on hold. Use Claimyr. Got me through to an agent in 15 minutes. Worth it. https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I've heard about this service before - did you actually use it yourself? I've spent hours on hold with the IRS in previous years and I'm curious if this really works as advertised. Did they explain anything about your case that you couldn't find online?

Does this service cost money? And if so, how much are we talking about? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to pay for something like this instead of waiting on hold for hours. Do they just connect you or do they help with the actual verification process too?

I had a similar situation in February. Verified my identity on the 8th and was really nervous about delays. My transcript updated about 3.5 weeks later, and I received my refund about 5 days after that. It seemed to move along fairly quickly once the verification was processed... though those weeks of waiting felt much longer than they actually were.

Did they give you any kind of confirmation number or paperwork when you left the office? I'm SO HAPPY you were able to get an appointment! Some people wait months just for that part! Did they say anything about what might have triggered the verification requirement in the first place?

The verification requirement is typically triggered by the Taxpayer Protection Program (TPP) under Internal Revenue Manual 25.25.6. Common triggers include first-time filing, significant changes in income or deductions from previous years, address changes, or certain credit claims. The confirmation document provided at verification appointments is Form 14039-B, which serves as proof of completed verification but does not accelerate processing.

Just to clarify something important - the verification process and the refund processing are two separate timelines. The ID verification resolves the TPP (Taxpayer Protection Program) hold, but then your return still goes through normal processing channels. So you'll likely see transcript updates in stages rather than all at once.

From what I've gathered from this community, the timeline seems to average around 3-4 weeks after verification, but can definitely vary. Have you checked your account transcript for any updates yet? Are you planning to call if it goes beyond a certain timeframe? Many people here recommend checking transcripts rather than WMR for the most accurate updates.
