Has Anyone Verified ID In-Person at an IRS Office and Received Updates?

Hey everyone! 😊 I just verified my identity in person at an IRS office last Friday and I'm SO anxious waiting for my return to process now. I'm wondering if anyone else has done the in-person verification recently? How long did it take for your return to start moving again after verification? I'm a full-time student and really counting on this refund for my summer tuition payment. Just trying to get a realistic timeline for when I might see movement on my account!

I verified in person about 3 weeks ago at my local office. Isn't it crazy how they make us jump through these hoops? I was told it would take 9 business days for my account to update, but it actually took 12 days before I saw any change in my transcript. Then another week before the refund hit my account. Have you been checking your transcript daily? That's where you'll see movement first, not the WMR tool.

This is really helpful information! • Verification processing: ~12 business days • Additional processing time: ~1 week • Total time from verification to deposit: ~3 weeks I appreciate you sharing your timeline as it gives everyone a realistic expectation.

I think I might be checking my transcript too often... maybe once or twice a day. Your experience is reassuring though - I was starting to worry something went wrong with my verification. Thanks for sharing how long it actually took for you.

I verified in person in early March. My transcript updated exactly 10 days later. I was completely confused by all the codes on my transcript, so I used taxr.ai to analyze it. The site explained every single code and told me exactly when to expect my refund. It was right on the money - got my direct deposit on the exact day it predicted. The transcript codes look like gibberish without something to translate them.

I've seen people mention this site before. But how do you know it's actually interpreting your transcript correctly? I've had experiences where these tools just make educated guesses based on common patterns. Did it actually tell you something you couldn't figure out from the IRS website?

Per IRS Publication 5192, transcript codes can have multiple meanings depending on context. Does this tool account for the variations in code interpretation based on filing status and claimed credits?

How exactly does it work? Do you upload your transcript or enter the codes manually? I'm curious about the process since I'm still waiting for my transcript to update after verifying last week.

I completed in-person verification on March 2nd this year. The IRS representative informed me that the Identity Verification (IDV) department would process my documentation within 7-10 business days. My transcript updated with TC 971 (Verification Complete) on March 14th, and my refund was direct deposited on March 21st. Total timeframe from verification to deposit was 19 calendar days. If you're monitoring your account, look specifically for Transaction Code 971 followed by 846 (Refund Issued).

I sort of had a similar experience, but mine took longer than most people are reporting here. After verifying in person, I waited about 3 weeks with absolutely no updates. I probably could have waited longer, but I was getting kind of anxious about my refund. I used Claimyr to get through to an actual IRS agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and found out my verification hadn't been properly processed in their system. The agent was able to manually complete it while I was on the phone. My transcript updated two days later, and I got my refund the following week.

Wait, so even after going in person to verify, they still didn't process it correctly? That's concerning. Did they give any explanation for why your verification wasn't properly recorded in the system? I'm worried the same thing might happen to me now.

Been thru this process twice (last yr and this yr). Here's what happens: 1. After in-person verif, takes 7-14 biz days for IDV dept to process 2. Once processed, your return goes BACK into normal processing queue 3. WMR won't update until AFTER transcript shows codes 4. Look for TC 971 (verification complete) then TC 570 (hold lifted) then TC 846 (refund issued) FYI - if you had EIC or CTC, add another week bc of PATH Act. Also, current processing is backed up by about 10 days according to my tax guy.

Verified in person on February 23rd this year. It's like throwing your tax return into a black hole and waiting for it to emerge on the other side. I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours, then the actual verification took 6 minutes. My transcript updated on March 8th (so exactly 2 weeks), then I received my refund on March 15th. The IRS agent told me they're prioritizing in-person verifications over online ones because they're more secure - like choosing express shipping over standard delivery.

The black hole analogy is perfect... I feel like I'm just staring into space waiting for something to happen. I'm glad to hear in-person verifications are processed faster though. That makes me feel a bit better about taking time off work to go to the office.
