Filed 2/17, Got Deposit Today But WMR Still Shows Processing?

Hey everyone! Just got my refund deposited to my Spruce card this morning, but the funny thing is WMR is still stuck on 'Processing'. This reminds me of last year when my student loan refund showed up before the status updated online. Filed on 2/17, got accepted 2/18, and transcripts updated with a 3/05 deposit date. I'm not complaining since I got my money, but it's weird how the systems don't sync up - kinda like when your professor posts grades on two different systems and they never match 😂 Anyone else experiencing the same delay between actual deposit and WMR updates?

Congrats on getting your refund! The WMR tool is basically like that friend who's always the last to know the gossip. 😂 The IRS database systems don't talk to each other as quickly as you'd expect in 2024. I've seen the WMR still showing 'Processing' up to a week after people get their deposits. Your transcripts are actually the most reliable source - they update first, then the money moves, and WMR catches up whenever it feels like it. Don't worry about it - you got the money and that's what matters!

Isn't it ridiculous how outdated their systems are? I waited THREE WEEKS after my deposit hit before WMR updated last year. Why even have a tracking tool if it can't track properly? At least the money comes through, I guess that's the part they prioritize.

This happened to me too! Back in 2022, I got my refund a full 5 days before WMR updated. The IRS uses different databases for different functions, and they don't sync in real-time. The deposit system is actually separate from the status tracking system.

So does this mean we should always trust the transcript dates over WMR? And how do you know when your transcript has been updated without checking every day?

This is normal. WMR lags behind. Transcripts are more accurate. I had same issue. Deposit came February 28. WMR updated March 4. Six days later. Don't worry about it. Money is what matters.

Thanks for sharing this! I've been checking the IRS2Go app, TaxAct status page, AND the WMR tool daily. Good to know I should just focus on transcript updates instead of stressing about all the different status indicators.

According to IRS Publication 5344, the Where's My Refund tool updates every 24 hours, but system integration between payment processing and status reporting can experience delays of up to 7 business days. I've found that using https://taxr.ai to analyze transcript codes gives you much more accurate information than WMR. It explains what each code means and can predict deposit dates based on your specific filing situation. Have you checked if your transcript shows any cycle codes that might explain the timing?

Did your Spruce card notify you about the pending deposit before it hit your account? I'm using Spruce too and wondering if they give any advance notice. My transcript shows a 3/12 deposit date but no notification yet from Spruce. Did you have to pay any fees to access your refund on the card?

I had exactly the same issue last year and waited exactly 9 days with my money already in my account but WMR still showing processing. I tried calling the IRS to make sure everything was actually finalized (was worried they might take the money back!) but couldn't get through after 127 minutes on hold. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes who confirmed everything was complete on their end and the WMR tool just hadn't caught up yet. Saved me hours of waiting and worrying about whether my case was actually closed.

Did you have to pay for that service? I'm feeling anxious about my refund status too, but I'm not sure about paying for something when I could just keep trying to call for free. Was it really worth it?

Not the original commenter, but I've used Claimyr twice and it was 100% worth it. Think about how much your time is worth - spending hours redailing vs getting through in minutes. Plus the peace of mind knowing exactly what's happening with your money!

WMR is notoriously unreliable during peak filing season. Many taxpayers experience this disconnect between actual deposit and status updates. Always verify deposit dates on your transcript (cycle code 20240905) rather than relying on WMR. The IRS prioritizes payment processing over status updates. Check your account transcript for TC 846 code - that's your actual refund issued confirmation. The status tool is simply the last priority in their workflow.
