WMR Says "Info Doesn't Match" But Refund Just Deposited!
PSA for anyone getting the "Info doesn't match" msg on WMR... Just got an alert that my refund was deposited even tho WMR is still showing the error! Filed 2/10, got deposit today 3/15. WMR still saying info doesn't match when I check it. Stressing about this for weeks bc I need $ for some upcoming med procedures. Thought my return was stuck in limbo or something. Checked my bank acct this AM and boom - full amount there! Anyone else experiencing this glitch? Is IRS's system just overwhelmed or what? Thx for any insights.

This happened to me too! Filed on January 28th and got the "info doesn't match" message starting February 4th. My refund hit my account on March 8th but WMR still shows the error message today (March 15th). I was checking every single day and getting more stressed as bills were piling up. The system must be overwhelmed with all the returns coming in right now.

I've seen this happen three years in a row now. The WMR tool is notoriously unreliable during peak filing season. Last year I waited on hold with the IRS for 2.5 hours before giving up. This year I used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my refund was already processed even though WMR showed nothing. Sure enough, it appeared in my account two days later. Their system just can't keep up with the volume.

I'm not sure about paying a service just to talk to the IRS. According to IRS Publication 5136, taxpayers should wait at least 21 days after e-filing before contacting them about refund status. Using third-party services raises questions about data privacy and necessity.

I was literally about to throw my phone out the window after my 8th attempt calling the IRS yesterday š Might have to try this Claimyr thing if my "info doesn't match" message is still there next week. Starting to worry a bit since I've got rent due soon and was counting on this refund!

I experienced this exact situation last month. Filed on February 2nd, got the "info doesn't match" message for weeks, then suddenly my refund appeared on February 27th without any updates to WMR. Have you checked your tax transcript? That's usually more accurate than WMR and updates more frequently. I've started keeping a spreadsheet of all my tax filing dates, refund amounts, and processing times to track patterns year to year.

Do you think checking the transcript is worth the effort? I'm getting the same error message, and I'm wondering if I should just wait it out or if looking at the transcript would actually tell me something useful?

The "Information Does Not Match" error on WMR is typically caused by one of several issues: (1) name/SSN mismatch with IRS records, (2) incorrect filing status selection, (3) refund amount entered incorrectly, or (4) system glitches during high volume periods. According to the IRS.gov knowledge base, these errors don't necessarily mean your return isn't processing. The WMR database and the refund processing systems are separate, which explains why you received your refund despite the error message. I understand there could be multiple causes, but in your experience, how long does it typically take for the WMR tool to update after a refund is actually issued? Is there anything we should do to correct this for future filings?

Thank you for breaking this down step-by-step. I've been dealing with this same issue for weeks and getting increasingly frustrated. At least now I understand the technical reason behind it and can stop obsessively checking WMR every hour!

It's like the IRS has two brains that don't talk to each other - the refund processing brain works fine while the status reporting brain is stuck in a loop! I had this happen and couldn't make sense of my transcript when it finally appeared. Used taxr.ai to decode it and it showed my refund was actually approved a week earlier, despite WMR showing nothing. The tool explained all those cryptic codes and cycle dates like translating ancient hieroglyphics into plain English. Huge relief to finally understand what was actually happening behind the scenes.

How exactly does this taxr.ai thing work? Couldn't you just Google what the transcript codes mean instead of using another service? I'm always wary of giving my tax info to random websites when the information is probably available somewhere on IRS.gov if you dig deep enough.

This "info doesn't match" issue happens in about 15-20% of filings based on what I've observed in tax forums. It's similar to how bank transactions sometimes show as "pending" long after they've cleared. The IRS processing pipeline has multiple stages: acceptance, verification, approval, and disbursement. The WMR tool only updates when all systems have synchronized, which can lag by 5-7 days compared to actual refund issuance. If you compare this to state tax refunds, you'll notice state systems generally have more accurate status reporting because they process fewer returns.

Thx for the detailed breakdown. I've noticed the same thing w/ my state refund vs federal. My state's website was spot-on accurate while the IRS one was way behind. Might be worth checking ur bank acct directly if ur getting the error msg for more than a week or so. Sometimes the $ is there even when WMR is clueless.

Has anyone possibly noticed if this "info doesn't match" issue seems to happen more frequently with certain tax situations? I'm wondering if perhaps returns with specific credits or deductions might be more likely to trigger this glitch in the system? My return had the Child Tax Credit, so I'm curious if that might have been a factor.
