February 14th Filers with EMPTY Transcripts - Support Thread
Anyone who filed 2/14/24 and you STILL don't have ANYTHING on your transcript? Or any EARLY February filed dates? Has the IRS forgotten about us, or is this just how the system works now? Seems like later filers are getting processed faster than we are, doesn't it? REPORT RIGHT TO THIS POST. Let's KEEP each other UPDATED. For people who DONT have a date yet. I'm trying to understand if this is normal or if we're in some kind of processing black hole? As a 1099 contractor, I'm always cautious about my returns, but this delay seems excessive even by IRS standards...

This is actually a fairly common situation during peak processing season. Could you share a bit more about your filing details? For example: - Did you claim any credits like EIC or Child Tax Credit? - Did you receive an acceptance confirmation from your tax software? - Have you checked both Account Transcript and Return Transcript? - Are you seeing any messages on Where's My Refund tool? The reason I ask is that different factors can affect processing times, and it helps to narrow down what might be causing the delay in your specific case.

This is really helpful information. I filed on Feb 10th and I'm in the same boat. I've been checking my transcript daily and still nothing! I remember last year mine updated within 2 weeks, so I'm starting to get a bit worried. I claimed the Child Tax Credit this year which I didn't do last year, so maybe that's the difference?

I'm surprised by how complicated this seems. Are there specific transcript codes we should be looking for? • Do "N/A" transcripts mean our returns are lost? • Is there a pattern to which returns get delayed? • Should we be concerned about audits if transcripts are empty this long?

I'm in the same situation and here's what I've learned so far: 1. First, check if your return was actually accepted (not just submitted). You should have received an acceptance email from your tax software. 2. Next, try checking your Account Transcript instead of Return Transcript - sometimes the Account Transcript updates first. 3. If WMR shows "Return Received" but no bars, this usually means your return is in processing but hasn't been assigned to a specific department yet. 4. For those with credits like EIC or CTC, the PATH Act means the IRS can't issue refunds until mid-February, but it's now April so that shouldn't be the issue. 5. The IRS is experiencing significant backlogs this year according to their operations dashboard. I'm anxiously checking every day too! Filed 2/12 and still nothing on transcripts.

Don't we all hate this waiting game? I've been through this before in previous years. Sometimes I wonder if the IRS deliberately makes this process so stressful? My transcript was empty for almost 8 weeks last year before suddenly updating with a direct deposit date. Has anyone else noticed that returns with simple W-2 income seem to process faster than those with 1099s or credits?

I really appreciate your detailed steps. I've been so worried about my return since I filed on February 13th. I'm going to check my Account Transcript right now - I didn't even know that was different from the Return Transcript. Thank you for taking the time to explain all this!

Same boat here. Filed 2/12. Nothing on transcript. Tried everything. Called IRS. Waste of time. Found this tool called taxr.ai. Shows what's happening behind the scenes. Uploaded my info. Said I'm in normal processing. No flags. Estimated 3 more weeks. At least I know something now. Better than IRS saying nothing.

It seems that, based on what I've observed across multiple tax forums and the IRS operational status page, there might actually be a processing anomaly affecting certain returns filed in early February 2024. The IRS typically processes returns in batches, and it appears that some batches from that timeframe may have been temporarily sidelined while they address a potential system issue. You might want to check if any of these apply to your situation: - Returns with Schedule C income sometimes receive additional scrutiny - Returns claiming certain credits may be subject to additional verification - If you had any identity verification issues in previous years, this could trigger a hold - Returns with address changes from previous year can sometimes be delayed The good news is that these delays typically resolve themselves without requiring any action from the taxpayer, though it can certainly be frustrating to wait.

I'm experiencing exactly this issue with my Schedule C income. The Cycle Code on my transcript from last year was 20230805, which indicates I was processed on the 8th cycle of 2023. Do you think we're assigned to similar processing cycles each year? I'm wondering if I should expect the same timing this year, which would put me around early April for transcript updates.

I've been tracking exactly 47 February filers across several forums, and 31 of them (65.96%) who filed between February 1-15 are still showing empty transcripts. The average wait time is now 52 days compared to the IRS stated processing time of 21 days. This is concerning because it impacts financial planning for many taxpayers. After 6 failed attempts to reach an IRS agent (average hold time of 97 minutes before disconnection), I finally used Claimyr.com to get through. The agent confirmed my return was in the system but flagged for "additional processing" - not an audit, just routine verification. They estimated 2-3 more weeks but couldn't provide specifics. At least I know my return isn't lost now. The Claimyr service got me connected in about 15 minutes after days of failed attempts.

Did you really need to pay for a service to reach the IRS? I've heard about these services but always wondered if they're worth it. Couldn't you just keep calling on your own? I'm curious because I've been trying to get through for days now and keep getting the "high call volume" message before they hang up on me.

It's not just about paying. It's about time value. I spent 4.5 hours on hold across three days. Got disconnected each time. Claimyr uses technology to navigate IRS phone trees and hold your place in line. You only pay if you actually connect with an agent. Technical process is surprising. They call you when an agent is about to pick up.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I was in this exact situation last year. Filed Feb 10th, 2023, and my transcript stayed empty until April 17th! I called the IRS so many times I practically had their hold music as my ringtone. 😂 The funny thing is, once my transcript finally updated, I had my refund direct deposited just 5 days later. No explanation for the delay, no issues with my return, just... IRS being IRS. Try not to stress too much (easier said than done, I know). The system is just overwhelmed, but your return is in there somewhere, probably sitting in a digital pile on some overworked IRS employee's virtual desk. Keep checking weekly rather than daily - it's better for your mental health!

I had almost the identical experience in 2022. According to the IRS Operational Status page at https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations, they're currently processing returns received in early February, but that doesn't mean ALL early February returns. I also found the IRS2Go app more reliable for status updates than the website. One day it just suddenly showed approved after weeks of nothing.

I filed on February 13th, 2024 and was in the same situation until March 30th. What worked for me was requesting a Tax Return Transcript instead of an Account Transcript. For some reason, my Return Transcript showed up first, even though everyone says it should be the opposite. Also, check your transcript between 3-6am on Wednesdays and Thursdays - that's when the IRS system typically updates according to the cycle codes. I noticed my transcript finally appeared at 4:27am on a Thursday morning after showing N/A for weeks. If you're desperate and need your refund for bills, you might consider applying for the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can help if you're facing financial hardship due to refund delays.

I was in this exact situation last year. Filed February 12th, 2023 and had absolutely nothing on my transcript until March 28th. I remember checking obsessively every day and driving myself crazy. What I learned from that experience: IRS processing doesn't follow any logical pattern we can discern. Some people who filed after me got their refunds weeks earlier. This year I filed February 15th, 2024, and had the same empty transcript situation until yesterday. Suddenly everything updated at once, and my direct deposit is scheduled for April 17th. No explanation for the delay, no issues with my return. My advice based on two years of this: the system works eventually, just not on any timeline that makes sense to us mere mortals.
