Poll: Who Did You File Through If You're Still Waiting on Refunds from January/February?

Just curious about everyone who's still stuck in refund limbo from January and February filings. Who did you file through? I'm on day 68 of waiting (but who's counting, right? 😅) and starting to wonder if certain tax prep services are seeing longer delays. I filed as an independent contractor with some 1099 income, so I expected *some* delay, but this is getting ridiculous. My transcripts updated once in March and then...nothing. Anyone else in the same boat? Did you use TurboTax, H&R Block, a CPA, or something else? Trying to see if there's a pattern here or if the IRS just hates us all equally lol.

Filed thru TT on Jan 29th, still waiting. Cycle code 0605 on transcript. Got the PATH msg for a while, then it switched to "still processing" and has been stuck there for like 6 wks. Called IRS twice - first time they said "just wait" and second time they said there was a "random review" but everything looked fine. Ugh. Seems like a LOT of early filers are stuck this yr compared to last yr.

I'm seeing the same pattern with early filers. Last year I filed in February and got my refund in 10 days. This year I filed January 25th and still nothing. I wonder if they're prioritizing more recent returns or if there's some kind of backlog with the early batch?

That cycle code 0605 is actually really helpful to know - I have the same one! It's supposed to update weekly on Thursdays. I've been checking my transcript religiously every Friday morning and still nothing new since early March. It's definitely something with early filers this year.

Are we sure this is just about early filing though? Couldn't it be something else causing the delay? I filed through TurboTax too, but I'm wondering if it has more to do with certain credits or deductions than the filing software itself?

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, random reviews are typically completed within 45 days. If you're beyond that timeframe, you may want to consider requesting a Taxpayer Advocate. While not guaranteed, they can sometimes help identify specific processing barriers not visible to regular customer service representatives.

I was in the same situation (filed Feb 2nd through FreeTaxUSA) and was going crazy trying to figure out what was happening. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. I pulled my transcript using the IRS website (painful process) 2. Used https://taxr.ai to analyze what was actually happening 3. The AI explained that my return had a 570 code (additional account action pending) followed by a 971 (notice issued) Turns out there was a small math error they fixed automatically, but it delayed everything. The taxr.ai tool predicted my refund would come exactly 4 weeks after the 570 code appeared - and it did, to the day. Saved me hours of stressing and trying to interpret those cryptic transcript codes.

I'm a bit concerned about using third-party tools with my tax information... How secure is this? Does it store your transcript data? I'm already stressed about my delayed refund, don't want to add identity theft to my worries.

Did you have to pay for the analysis? And what kind of math error did they find? I'm wondering if I have something similar going on with mine.

Filed through a CPA on February 1st. Still waiting too. I'm super meticulous with my documentation and even had my CPA double-check everything before submitting, but here we are. My transcript shows code 570 followed by 971. Called the IRS and they said there was an "income verification" happening but couldn't tell me how long it would take. At this point, I'm just assuming I won't see my money until summer.

Thanks for sharing this. I was thinking about going with a CPA next year thinking it might speed things up, but sounds like it doesn't make much difference!

When you say "income verification" - did they mention if this was related to W-2 income or self-employment? I'm curious if certain types of income are triggering more reviews this year.

OMG I'M DYING WAITING!!! Filed January 31st through H&R Block and STILL NOTHING!! I've called the IRS number literally 35 times and can never get through to a human!!! I NEED this money for medical bills that are past due! Finally I used Claimyr.com (https://claimyr.com) last week and got through to an actual IRS agent in about 15 minutes. They told me my return is in the "errors department" but couldn't say what the error was?? At least now I know why it's delayed, but I'm still freaking out about when I'll actually get my refund!

I might have a somewhat different approach that's working for me. I filed through TaxAct on February 3rd and was also stuck for weeks. I requested an account transcript rather than just a return transcript, which seemed to show more information. Then I went to my local Taxpayer Assistance Center (had to make an appointment, which took about a week). The in-person agent was actually able to see that there was a discrepancy between my reported 1099-NEC and what the IRS had on file from one client. Probably would have taken months to resolve by mail, but she helped me submit documentation on the spot.

Filed through TurboTax on January 24th and just got my refund yesterday! I was in the same boat as everyone here - transcript showed codes 570/971 since early March with zero movement. I was checking WMR twice a day like a crazy person. Last week my transcript suddenly updated with code 846 (refund issued) and the money appeared in my account yesterday. No explanation for the delay, no letter ever arrived explaining what happened. So there's hope for you all - sometimes they just randomly start moving again!
