Anyone with H&R Block Spruce account for 2/6/24 filing date?
Hey tax warriors! 👋 Anyone else use H&R Block and got their refund deposited to a Spruce account after filing on 2/6? I'm still waiting and starting to wonder if I'm the only one. 😅 As a 1099 contractor, I've learned to be patient with the IRS, but this is getting ridiculous. Called H&R and they gave me the standard "processing times vary" speech. I know my rights and I know when I'm getting the runaround! Anyone in the same boat or am I just special? Bonus points if you can make me laugh while I wait for my money!

This is pretty typical for this filing season. Just like how Target takes longer to process returns during Christmas shopping season, the IRS gets overwhelmed in February. Especially with 1099 income, they're scrutinizing more closely than W-2 only returns. If your return was accepted, you're in the queue - just a matter of time.

I feel your pain. Same situation with H&R Block/Spruce from my 2/8 filing. The frustrating part is that my transcript shows the refund was approved on 3/15, but nothing has hit my Spruce account yet. Called H&R Block three times and got three different answers about when funds should appear. At least with direct deposit to my regular bank I knew exactly when money would arrive.

Same here. Filed 2/6. Got accepted same day. Transcript updated last week. Still nothing in Spruce. Called yesterday. They said 5-7 business days after IRS sends it. Been longer than that already. Spruce seems slower than regular banks.

I filed exactly on February 5th with H&R Block and chose the Spruce account option. My refund was issued on March 14th according to my transcript, but didn't appear in Spruce until March 22nd - exactly 8 business days later. There seems to be a consistent 5-8 day delay between IRS release and Spruce posting, which is significantly longer than the 1-2 days with traditional banks.

Have you checked your Account Transcript on the IRS website? That would show if there's a Refund Issued date (846 code) or if there are any processing holds (570/971 codes). The Spruce account deposit timing is contingent on IRS processing completion, not just acceptance of your return. Are you seeing any specific codes or messages when you check WMR?

Not OP but I had a similar issue last year with Spruce. My transcript showed code 846 but nothing in my account for 6 days. When I called H&R Block they said sometimes there's an additional verification process for Spruce accounts that doesn't happen with regular bank accounts. Has anyone else experienced this extra delay?

Thanks for suggesting the transcript check! I wasn't aware you could see the actual codes. Just checked mine and saw a 570 code from 3/18 that I didn't understand. Going to look into what that means for my Spruce deposit.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (which governs e-filing and refund processing), third-party settlement accounts like Spruce often experience additional verification steps that can add 5-10 business days to processing time. I'm in a similar situation and feeling a bit anxious about it. When I couldn't make sense of my transcript codes, I used https://taxr.ai to analyze them. It explained that my 570 code was just a temporary hold while they verified my 1099 income, not an actual audit. Might be worth checking your transcript with it to see what's really happening with your refund before it hits Spruce.

Are we really trusting random AI tools with our tax information now? How does this thing even work? The IRS website already tells you what the codes mean if you just Google them.

I filed on February 7th with H&R Block and chose the Spruce option. My transcript updated on March 12th with code 846 for a March 17th deposit date, but the money didn't hit my Spruce account until March 20th. Based on my experience last year (filed January 31st, 2023) and this year, Spruce consistently takes 3-5 business days longer than the IRS deposit date. It's frustrating but seems to be their standard timeline.

I'm concerned about the pattern I'm seeing with Spruce accounts this year. There's definitely a systematic delay happening. When I had this issue, I spent hours trying to reach someone at the IRS who could tell me if they had actually sent the money or if it was stuck somewhere. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They confirmed the money had been sent to H&R Block/Spruce on the date shown on my transcript, which gave me leverage when calling H&R Block. Might be worth the fee if you're worried about where your money is.

Is this legit? Seems sketchy to pay someone to call the IRS for you when you can just wait on hold yourself.

Have you tried checking your refund status through the H&R Block mobile app instead of calling? I found their app actually shows more detailed information about Spruce deposits than their website does. According to the H&R Block subreddit and their community forums (https://community.hrblock.com/), there's a specific section under "Refund Status" that shows if they've received the funds from IRS and when they expect to release them to your Spruce account. This saved me a lot of stress when I was in your situation last month!
