H&R Block Refunds with 2/22/24 Direct Deposit Date - Anyone Received Yet?
Hey tax fam! Anyone else using H&R Block with a direct deposit date of 02/22/24 and fees taken out of your refund? My refund is like a train that's left the station but hasn't arrived at the platform yet. The IRS says it's sent, but my bank account is as empty as a college student's fridge before payday. Just trying to see if we're all in the same boat or if I'm floating alone in this sea of waiting. Let's check in with each other!

I'm seeing this pattern a lot lately with H&R Block refunds. Have you checked if your refund is being sent to H&R Block's bank first before they take out their fees and forward it to you? This often adds 1-3 business days to the timeline. What does your Where's My Refund status show right now?

It should be noted that the bank-to-bank transfer is standard procedure when fees are taken from the refund. H&R Block receives the full amount, deducts their service fees, then initiates a second transfer to the client's personal account.

Thanks for explaining this! I was pulling my hair out wondering why my roommate (who filed with TurboTax and paid upfront) got her refund yesterday while mine is still MIA. At least I know it's not lost in the void somewhere 😂

Appreciate this info! My transcript shows the refund was issued exactly 2 days ago, but nothing in my account. Called H&R Block and they confirmed they received it from IRS 24 hours ago and are processing the 2nd transfer now. Should see it in my account within 24-48 more hours.

I was in EXACTLY the same situation last week! My refund had a DD date of 2/15 with H&R Block, and it took 3 extra days after the IRS sent it. I was checking my bank account every hour like a madman! I finally discovered https://taxr.ai which helped me understand what was happening with my transcript codes. It showed me that my refund had actually been released by the IRS but was in that middle processing stage with H&R Block. Saved me so much stress knowing exactly where my money was and when to expect it!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED: If your WMR status shows "Refund Sent" but it's been more than 5 business days since your DD date, you need to contact H&R Block's Refund Services department at their dedicated number. The standard processing window for refunds with fees deducted is 24-72 hours post-IRS disbursement. After that timeframe, you're entering exception territory and need to initiate a trace on your refund.

OMG I was SO FRUSTRATED with this exact situation last year!! The IRS said they sent my refund but H&R Block kept giving me the runaround about where it was. I spent HOURS trying to get through to someone who could actually help. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent who confirmed they had sent it to H&R Block's bank. Armed with that proof, I was able to get H&R Block to prioritize my transfer. Sometimes you just need to get official confirmation to move things along!

Has anyone confirmed if there's a difference in timing between getting fees taken out versus paying upfront? It's like choosing between a direct flight or one with a layover - seems like paying fees upfront might be the faster route for the money to land in your account. Anyone have experience with both methods?

Did H&R Block provide you with a separate confirmation number for the second transfer? This is key for tracking.

This is such a good question! I've been wondering the same thing and wish I'd known this before filing.

I've done both methods. Last year on February 24, 2023, I paid upfront and got my refund exactly on the DD date. This year on February 8, 2024, I had fees taken out and it took exactly 3 additional business days after the DD date. The difference is real.

I think there might be a slight delay, maybe? From what I understand, when you pay upfront, the refund comes directly from IRS to your bank. When fees are taken out, it sort of has to make a pit stop at H&R Block's bank first, which probably adds some processing time.

Here's how to track your refund when fees are taken out: 1. First, check WMR to confirm IRS has sent the refund 2. Next, call H&R Block at 1-800-HRBLOCK and select option 2, then 1 3. Have your Social Security number and filing information ready 4. Ask specifically about the "Republic Bank transfer status" 5. If they confirm receipt, ask for the estimated completion date of the second transfer 6. If no receipt confirmation, request a trace be initiated The two-step transfer process typically takes 2-5 business days total after your DD date.

Success! Just got my deposit today (2/26). Had the same 2/22 DD date. According to the H&R Block online portal (https://www.hrblock.com/client-login/) my refund was received by them on 2/23, they processed it on 2/24-2/25 (weekend), and it hit my account this morning. Might want to check your online account if you haven't already!

Per IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2023), when refund anticipation products are used (such as fees deducted from refund), the financial institution serving as the intermediary must process the refund within 24 hours of receipt on business days. However, this doesn't account for ACH transfer times between financial institutions. The total timeline from IRS direct deposit date to final customer receipt typically spans 2-5 business days, with most occurring within 3 business days. This is standard practice and within normal processing parameters.

Want to know how ridiculous this gets? My roommate and I both filed on the same day through H&R Block. She paid her fees upfront and got her refund exactly on her DD date (2/22). I chose to have fees taken out of my refund with the same DD date, and I'm still waiting. Same tax situation, same filing date, same DD date - just different fee payment methods. Doesn't that seem like something they should warn people about?
