Anyone Caught in the 2024 'System Error' Delay with No Movement on Transcript?

Let's talk about this 2024 filing season 'system error' that has a bunch of us in limbo. My situation: • Filed: 2/3/24 • Accepted: 2/4/24 • Simple return: Just one W-2 • Credits: Child Tax Credit (no EIC) • Current status: Absolutely nothing happening I've been patient through the whole PATH Act lifting period, but still: • Transcript: Completely blank • WMR: Stuck on first bar • No notices in the mail • No explanation for the delay Called the IRS last week and the rep told me: • "Wait until May 9th to call back" • "No identity verification needed" • "No additional documents required" • "Just part of a processing delay" Anyone else stuck in this weird holding pattern? Has anyone actually received their refund after being caught in this? Looking for some hope that I won't be waiting until fall for my money! 💸

You're definitely caught in the Processing Delay Batch (PDB) that's affecting a significant number of early filers this season. The IRS implemented new fraud detection algorithms that inadvertently flagged legitimate returns with certain characteristics. According to internal guidance memo 2024-17, these returns are in a holding pattern while the system performs additional verification steps without requiring taxpayer intervention. The timeline they gave you (May 9th) aligns with the projected resolution window for this specific processing anomaly.

Is there any specific regulation or IRS code that addresses these systemic delays? I've been looking through Publication 5027 and can't find anything that explains why they can hold returns without formal notification to taxpayers.

I've been following this issue on the IRS operational status page and some tax pro forums. Are there any specific transcript codes people should watch for that indicate they're in this batch? Like TC 570/971 combinations or something specific?

Been tracking this issue for weeks now. Tons of ppl w/ similar situations. FWIW, I uploaded my transcript to https://taxr.ai once it finally appeared (after 6wks of nothing). The AI explained exactly what was happening - my return got caught in that fraud detection algo but wasn't actually being reviewed. It identified the specific codes that showed I was in the auto-verification queue vs. an actual audit. Helped me understand the timeline way better than the generic IRS explanations. Might be worth checking once ur transcript updates.

I'm in a similar situation but with some key differences that might explain the pattern: - Filed 2/1, accepted 2/2 - Also claimed CTC, no EIC - Transcript showed N/A for 6 weeks - Finally updated last week with a 570 code Compared to last year when I filed with identical information and had my refund in 14 days, this is dramatically different. Compared to friends who filed in mid-February, they're seeing normal processing times. My theory: The system error specifically affected returns filed between approximately January 29 and February 10. Returns filed later seem to be processing normally, which suggests they fixed whatever was causing the initial batch to get stuck.

Did your transcript update with any specific codes? Mine is still blank.

I filed on 1/31 and got accepted 2/1. Still nothing on my transcript as of today (4/15). Called twice. First rep on 3/20 said wait 60 days. Second rep on 4/8 said wait until 5/15. I need this money for my property taxes due on 5/1!

This timeline comparison is super helpful! I've been tracking patterns too: • Early filers (Jan 29-Feb 10): Major delays • Mid-Feb filers: Some delays but processing • March filers: Mostly normal timeframes Seems like they definitely fixed something mid-February.

I was stuck in this exact Processing Exception 126 limbo for 8 weeks. Transcript blank, WMR on first bar. Called the standard IRS number 14 times with 2+ hour waits each time only to be disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an agent in the Account Management department. The agent confirmed my return was caught in the systemic error batch but wasn't actually under review - just needed manual release. Got my DDD three days after that call. Worth the service fee to avoid the endless phone tree and disconnects.

I would advise against taking any drastic measures at this point. While it's frustrating, I've observed that some taxpayers who attempted to file amended returns or duplicate returns during this delay have inadvertently created much longer delays. The IRS systems are designed to flag potential duplicate filings, which can trigger a manual review process that may extend processing time by several additional months. It might be prudent to wait until the May 9th date they provided before taking further action.

OMG I was in the EXACT same boat and just got my refund yesterday!! Filed 1/30, accepted 1/31, CTC but no EIC. Transcript was blank until April 8th when it suddenly updated with a direct deposit date of 4/14. The money hit my account this morning! I was literally checking WMR and my transcript daily for 10 weeks straight. I was so worried because I needed this money for my daughter's summer program deposit. Hang in there - it WILL come through! 🙌

Back in 2021, I had a similar situation with a processing delay. What worked for me then (and might work now) was contacting my local Taxpayer Advocate Service office. They have more direct channels to research these systemic issues than regular IRS phone reps. In my case, they were able to identify that my return was stuck in a processing queue and needed manual intervention to move forward. If you're approaching the 60-day mark with no movement, I'd recommend giving them a call.

Is anyone seeing their tax transcript update and then go back to N/A again? Mine briefly showed some codes last week, then disappeared completely. When I called, they said this could indicate my return was pulled for additional review. Has anyone experienced this happening? Does it mean I'm going to be waiting even longer? I'm really worried because the last time this happened to my brother, he ended up waiting until August to get his refund.
