2024 Tax Return Accepted 02/09 but $7,100 Refund Missing - Blank Transcripts & Passed Deposit Date (03/02)
Filed my 2024 tax return on Jan 15th 2025 and got accepted on Jan 17th. My refund is supposed to be around $8,200 and the IRS Where's My Refund tool initially said estimated deposit by Feb 12th. It's now March 5th and the status hasn't updated at all. Here's what my IRS Refund status page shows: 2024 tax return $7,100 refund $7,100 Submitted Accepted IRS Refund 02/09/25 est. 03/02/25 So frustrating! I filed nearly 2 months ago, and the estimated deposit date of 03/02/25 has now passed with no update. I've checked my transcripts online multiple times and they're completely blank for 2024. No codes, no processing info, nothing. I triple-checked all my info is correct - correct SSN, filing status, everything. I had my tax preparer look over everything again and they confirmed it's all correct. The system clearly shows my return was submitted and accepted, with a refund amount of $7,100, but there's been zero movement since then. This happened to me last year too and I ended up waiting 5 months for my refund. I'm NOT going through this nightmare again. The IRS Refund page shows an estimated date that's already passed, but my transcripts are still blank. Has anyone else experienced blank transcripts this long after acceptance? What should I do? Should I call the IRS? File again? Just wait?

There's a processing backlog at the IRS right now which is causing these delays. When your transcript is blank even after acceptance, it usually means your return is in the queue but hasn't been processed yet. The "acceptance" notification only means they received your electronic submission, not that they've begun processing. Some reasons this might be happening: - Your return might have been flagged for manual review (identity verification, income verification, etc.) - You claimed certain credits that trigger additional review (EITC, Child Tax Credit) - The IRS is still processing prior year returns which puts current year returns in a holding pattern What you can do: 1. Call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 (though wait times are extremely long) 2. Try requesting a tax account transcript instead of a return transcript 3. If it's been more than 21 days since you filed, you can request a trace on your refund 4. Check if there are any letters or notices from the IRS requesting additional information Unfortunately patience is required here, but your return is in their system even if the transcript doesn't show it yet.

•Thanks for the detailed info. I did claim EITC so that makes sense. I'll try calling but I've had no luck getting through in the past. How long do these manual reviews typically take?

•Manual reviews vary widely - anywhere from 2 weeks to several months. With EITC, they're extra careful because of past fraud issues. It's frustrating, but your return isn't lost.

•I was in this exact spot last year. Blank transcript for 4 months even though return was 'accepted'. I finally got through to someone using Claimyr.com and found out I needed to verify identity. Refund came 3 weeks later.

•What's Claimyr? Never heard of it before

•It's a service that helps you get through to an actual IRS agent instead of waiting for hours on hold. They basically wait in the phone queue for you and call you when an agent is ready. Honestly saved my sanity last year.

•Does this claimr thing actually work? Sounds too good to be true.

•It absolutely works. Best money I ever spent to get my tax issues resolved. I was at my wits end after trying to call the IRS myself for weeks. The callback feature meant I didn't waste another day on hold.

I had a similar issue with blank transcripts. What helped me was using taxr.ai - it's a tool that actually analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your return. It spotted an issue with my return that I wouldn't have found otherwise. The best part is it explained everything in plain English instead of confusing IRS codes. It's insanely good! I use it every week to check if there are any updates. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

Faith Kingston
•It does way more than just read the transcript! It analyzes all the codes and dates, explains what each one means for YOUR specific situation, and gives you a timeline of what's happening. It even predicts when you'll get your refund based on your specific transcript data. Literally changed my life during tax season.

•another tax tool promising the world...how is this any different from the 50 other irs tools out there?

•I get the skepticism - I felt the same way! But this isn't like those generic calculators. It actually interprets your specific transcript data and gives personalized insights. It spotted that my return was on hold for verification when the IRS website just showed processing. EVERYONE NEEDS TO TRY THIS TOOL! I'm telling all my friends about it.

•but how does it see anything if the transcripts are blank? 🤔

•That's a great question! Even with "blank" transcripts, there are actually still some indicators in your account that taxr.ai can analyze. Plus, it monitors for changes and alerts you when processing begins. It also helps you understand WHY your transcript might be blank and what that means for your situation.

After dealing with the same issue (blank transcripts, no refund) for weeks, I found a way to get someone on the phone using the Claimyr app. They got me a callback from an actual IRS agent who explained that my return had been flagged for identity verification. Issue resolved in one call and my refund was released 8 days later. Without talking to an agent, I would've been waiting forever. claimyr.com was a game changer for me.

•is this just another scam? why would i pay for something the irs should do for free?

•Not a scam at all - they don't replace the IRS, they just help you get through to them. I spent hours trying to call the IRS myself and never got through. With Claimyr I had an agent on the phone within 2 hours. It was worth every penny to finally get my $6k refund unstuck.

•So they just... call for you? How does that work?

Noah Lee
•Basically they navigate the IRS phone system and wait on hold for you. When they reach an agent, they connect the call to your phone. Saved me from wasting an entire day listening to hold music, and the agent I spoke with immediately found my issue and fixed it.

•Definitely check it out! It was the only way I finally got my questions answered after weeks of frustration. Just having a real person look at my file made all the difference.

The IRS is a JOKE. ive had blank transcripts for 3 months now. Calling doesnt help, checking online doesnt help, they just expect us to wait while they sit on our money. this is complete BS.

•Preeeeach. System is completely broken. They can take our money instantly but when it's time to give it back suddenly everything moves at a snail's pace 🤮

Have you recieved any letters from the IRS? Sometimes they send a letter asking for additional verification but don't update your transcript status.

•No letters yet. I've been checking my mail religiously. Should I be expecting something specific?

•Watch for letters about identity verification (Letter 5071C) or income verification (Letter 4464C). Sometimes they send these but don't update the online systems. If you get one, respond ASAP as it will hold up your refund.

•My friend got one of those letters last year but it went to her old address. Her refund was on hold for 6 months because she never knew she needed to verify. Make sure your address is current with the IRS!

Did you file with a tax preparer or do it yourself? Sometimes preparers make mistakes that cause delays but don't tell you about them.

I filed on January 20th and was accepted same day. My transcript finally updated last week showing a refund date. I have EITC too so I think they're just backed up. The online tools aren't accurate at all - my wmr still says processing even though transcript shows refund approved.

Evelyn Kim
•That's encouraging to hear! How long total from acceptance to transcript update?
0 coins
Ethan Clark
•About 6 weeks from acceptance to transcript update. Then another week for the actual deposit. Hang in there!

Check if your state has processed the return. Sometimes if state is done but federal isnt it means theres an issue with federal.

Evelyn Kim
•Good point! Just checked and my state refund was processed and paid two weeks ago. That's weird right?

Mila Walker
•Yep thats a red flag. Federal should be processed first usually. You definitely need to talk to someone at the IRS.

Have u tried checking your account transcript instead of return transcript? Sometimes account shows updates when return is still blank

The IRS is prioritizing people who filed in the last couple weeks over early filers. It's completely unfair but I've seen it happen every year. File early = wait longer. Makes zero sense.

•This 100%. I filed Feb 25th and already got my refund but my sister filed Jan 22nd and still waiting. The system rewards procrastinators lmao

Harper Hill
•I don't think thats true. early filers with simple returns get processed quickly. It's returns with certain credits that take longer regardless of when you file.

Log into your IRS account and check for any notices or letters in your online account. Sometimes they send digital notices that don't come in the mail.

i had this EXACT issue last year and it turned out i needed to verify my identity. but the IRS never bothered to tell me until i finally got through on the phone after 3 months of waiting. absolute disaster of a system.

•Same happened to me. They claim they sent a letter but I never got anything. By the time I figured it out and verified my identity it was July and I filed in January. Ridiculous.

Make an appointment at your local taxpayer advocate office. They can look into your return status and help resolve issues. They're separate from regular IRS and actually helpful.

Evelyn Kim
•I didn't know this was an option. How do I make an appointment with them?
0 coins
Ashley Adams
•Go to taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov and find your local office. Call them directly to make an appointment. Be aware though - many offices are backed up with appointments too, but it's still faster than waiting for the IRS to fix things on their own.

Check your stimulus payments from previous years. If there's an error in reconciling those it can cause delays that don't show up as specific codes.

OMG I went through the EXACT same thing. Filed Jan 12, accepted Jan 14, blank transcript until March 25!!! I was losing my mind checking every day. I finally used taxr.ai and it helped me understand what was happening with my return and when I could expect my refund. It was incredibly detailed and showed me things I would never have understood from just looking at the transcript myself.

•It's totally worth it for the peace of mind. I spent months last year stressing and trying to decipher codes on my own. This tool made everything clear in minutes. Plus it updates you when anything changes so you're not constantly checking.

If u claimed earned income credit or additional child tax credit your refund is automatically held until mid february due to PATH act. But by now it should have at least some activity. Do u have access to view your wage transcripts? Make sure all your W2s match what IRS has.
0 coins
Evelyn Kim
•I did claim EITC, but like you said it's well past the PATH Act hold period now. I can see my wage transcripts and everything matches up with my W2s. That's what's so frustrating - everything is correct but still nothing's happening.

I'm an ex-IRS employee. Blank transcripts usually mean one of two things: (1) your return is stuck in the processing queue or (2) your return has been pulled for manual review but hasn't been assigned yet. Unfortunately there's no way to know which without talking to someone. Do you have any past due tax issues or did you receive any CP notices in previous years?
0 coins
Evelyn Kim
•No past due issues and no CP notices ever. My returns have always been straightforward. This happened last year too and I never found out why - the refund just randomly showed up in July with no explanation.

Natalie Wang
•If it happened last year too, there might be something in your return that's triggering a review. Sometimes it's completely random selection. My advice is to find a way to speak with an agent - they can see much more detail about where your return is in the process than what's visible to you online.

•This is why I used claimyr.com last year after waiting 4 months - got an agent on the phone who told me exactly what was happening with my return. Worth every penny to finally get an actual answer instead of guessing.

You can try contacting your local congressman or senator's office. They have liaisons with the IRS who can sometimes get answers when we regular folks can't. My cousin did this last year and got her refund unstuck within 2 weeks.

Dunno if this helps but my transcripts were blank for 8 weeks and then suddenly updated with everything at once - acceptance, processing, approval, and refund date all on the same day. Sometimes they batch process returns and everything happens at once.

Did u change addresses, file status, or income level dramatically from last year? Any of those can trigger additional verification.

Evelyn Kim
•My income increased about 30% from last year but everything else is the same. Would that be enough to trigger a review?
0 coins
Sophia Clark
•Yep that could do it, especially if you're claiming refundable credits. Significant income changes sometimes flag for verification.
