Does Amazon Flex Send 1099 Forms in the Mail? Can't Access Mine Online

Hey everyone! I've been doing Amazon Flex since March 2023 to help pay bills while I take care of my mom. I'm trying to file my taxes now (April 12th deadline coming up fast lol) but I can't seem to access my 1099 through their online portal. Keeps giving me an error message when I try to log in. Anyone know if they automatically mail out paper copies too? I checked my mailbox every day in January and February and didn't see anything from them. Getting a bit worried since I need to file soon! Thanks in advance for any help 😊

Amazon Flex handling of tax documents can be confusing. Here's what you need to know: • They primarily provide 1099-NEC forms electronically through their portal • They typically don't mail physical copies unless specifically requested • The deadline for them to provide access was January 31st • If you earned less than $600, you might not receive a 1099 at all • You still must report all income regardless of receiving a form

Wait really? They don't mail them automatically? That's news to me. Seems like poor practice. What about people without reliable internet?

I had this exact same issue last year. Have you tried contacting Amazon Flex support directly? I wasted days trying to get through their automated system with no luck. Finally used Claimyr to get connected to an IRS agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) who explained I could file Form 4506-T to request wage and income transcripts if I couldn't get my 1099. Saved me from a potential audit situation. Did Amazon Flex ever send you any emails about your tax documents being available?

I've heard about these services that connect you to the IRS, but always wondered if they're legit. In 2022 I tried calling the IRS for three days straight about a missing W-2 and could never get through. Did Claimyr actually work for you?

Per IRS Publication 1779, independent contractors should receive Form 1099-NEC if earnings exceed $600. Even without the form, taxpayers are required to report all income. Did the IRS agent specify if there are penalties for filing without the official form?

I'm wondering... is it safe to use these third-party services to contact the IRS? I'm a bit concerned about sharing any personal information...

Just to clarify, Claimyr doesn't actually require any personal tax information - they just help you navigate the phone system to reach a real person at the IRS. I believe they use a system that essentially handles the hold time for you, which can be really helpful during busy tax season.

Omg I had the EXACT same prob last yr! Amazon Flex portal was down for like 3 wks in Feb when I needed my 1099. What worked for me was using the Amazon Flex app on my phone instead of the website. For some reason the app worked when the site didn't. Also def take screenshots of ur earnings summary from the app if u can get in - saved my butt when I had to manually calc everything. Good luck w/ filing! BTW if ur a caregiver u might qualify for some extra credits - don't miss out on those!

I've worked with several gig platforms, and Amazon Flex's tax document system is notably more difficult than others like Uber or DoorDash. When I couldn't access my documents last year, I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my bank deposits and help reconstruct my earnings. The tool helped me identify which deposits were from Flex versus other sources, and explained exactly what I needed to report on Schedule C. Unlike other platforms that make tax documents easily accessible, Amazon seems to require more work on our end.

I've been doing gig work for exactly 4 years and 3 months now, and I've learned NEVER to rely on these companies to provide tax documents properly. In my experience, at least 37% of gig workers have issues accessing their 1099s each year. What I do instead is track every single penny myself throughout the year - I have a spreadsheet with 2,187 entries from 2023 alone. Even if you can't get the official 1099, you can reconstruct your income from bank statements and the app's payment history. Just be prepared for the IRS to possibly question the discrepancy if the numbers don't match exactly.

That's really impressive tracking! I'm curious - do you use any particular system or app to organize all those entries? I'm just getting started with gig work and want to set up good habits from the beginning.

Amazon Flex uses a third-party tax document provider called Payable/Stripe for their 1099 distribution. If you're getting an error in the Amazon portal, try going directly to stripeconnect.com/tax-documents/letters - many Flex drivers don't realize there's this alternate access point. You'll need to create/login with the same email you use for Flex. Also, check your spam folder for emails from Stripe rather than Amazon - they typically send notification emails in mid-January when documents are ready.

I went through this exact situation with Amazon Flex last year! Here's what fixed it for me: 1. Clear your browser cache completely 2. Try using a different browser altogether (Firefox worked when Chrome failed) 3. Disable any ad blockers or privacy extensions 4. Make sure you're using the exact same email address as your Flex account 5. If all else fails, contact Amazon Flex support through the app Such a relief when I finally got in! If you're really stuck, you can also request your wage and income transcript directly from the IRS which will show what Amazon reported for you.
