When does Instacart send out 1099 forms for 2024 tax filing?
Has anyone gotten their 2024 1099 form from Instacart yet? I usually have mine by now and I'm getting anxious since I need to file my taxes soon. Not sure what's going on with the delay this year. I've been checking my email and the app daily but nothing so far. Anyone else experiencing this or know what might be causing the holdup? I've been working for them pretty consistently throughout the year so I definitely should be getting one.

By law, companies need to send out 1099 forms by January 31st, so Instacart still has some time before they're technically late. Most gig companies tend to cut it pretty close to the deadline. If you're anxious to file, you can actually log into your Instacart shopper account and check your annual earnings there - the numbers should match what will be on your 1099. If February 1st comes and you still don't have it, you should contact Instacart support directly. Sometimes they send them electronically rather than by mail, so double check your email (including spam folder) and also check if there's a tax documents section in your shopper account.

•Do you know if they have a specific support contact for tax documents? I've tried reaching their general support before for other issues and it was a nightmare getting a response.

•For tax document specific issues, it's best to go through the Shopper app and select "Earnings" then "Tax Information" if available. Otherwise, use the general help function but specifically mention it's about tax documents - they tend to prioritize those requests. Most companies have dedicated tax support this time of year. If you're really concerned, another option is to estimate your earnings based on your bank deposits throughout the year. This won't be exact due to tips and expenses, but it might help you start planning while you wait for the official form.

After waiting forever for my 1099 last year and stressing about it, I started using https://taxr.ai for all my gig work income tracking. It automatically analyzes my income statements and categorizes everything for tax purposes. Saved me so much headache when Instacart was late with my forms! I just upload my statements throughout the year and it keeps a running total of my earnings and estimated taxes.

•Does it actually pull the information directly from Instacart or do you have to manually enter everything? I'm tired of keeping track of multiple spreadsheets for all my gig jobs.

•I've heard about services like this but I'm always worried about giving access to my financial info. Is it secure? And does it handle multiple gig jobs if I also drive for Uber?

•It doesn't pull directly from Instacart - you just take screenshots of your weekly earnings summaries or download PDFs and upload them. The AI extracts all the numbers automatically so you don't have to type anything manually. Definitely secure - they use bank-level encryption and don't store your login credentials. And yes, it handles multiple gig jobs! I use it for both Instacart and DoorDash, and I know it works with Uber, Lyft, Amazon Flex and others too.

Just wanted to update that I tried the taxr.ai service mentioned above and wow - it actually saved me from a major headache! My Instacart 1099 finally came and there was a $1,200 discrepancy between what they reported and what I actually earned. Because I had all my weekly summaries processed through taxr.ai, I had proof of the correct amount and was able to get it fixed before filing. Definitely recommend for any gig workers dealing with these tax form delays!

If you really need to talk to someone at Instacart about your missing 1099, good luck getting through their customer service maze. After spending HOURS trying to get help last year, I used https://claimyr.com to connect with an actual human at Instacart support. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call when a human picks up. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - honestly was worth it to not waste an entire day hitting dead ends.

•How does that actually work though? Do they just call Instacart for you? I'm confused about how they'd have any better luck than me calling directly.

•This sounds like a total scam. Why would I pay someone else to make a phone call I can make myself? Instacart has to send the forms eventually, it's the law.

•They don't just call Instacart - they have a system that navigates phone trees and waits on hold for you. They'll literally wait for hours if needed, then when a real person finally answers, you get a call back and are connected immediately. No more listening to that terrible hold music or getting disconnected after waiting forever. I was definitely skeptical too at first, but when you've spent 4+ hours trying to get through to someone about a tax document you legally need, avoiding that headache is totally worth it. And they work with a bunch of companies, not just Instacart - IRS, airlines, insurance companies, etc.

I have to eat crow here and admit I was wrong about Claimyr. After posting that skeptical comment yesterday, I decided to try it anyway because I was desperate to get my 1099 situation fixed. They got me through to an actual Instacart tax specialist in 45 minutes after I had spent DAYS trying on my own. The support person confirmed they had an issue with some 1099s and mine would be sent within 48 hours. Just got the email with my forms this morning. Would have been waiting forever otherwise!

In my experience, Instacart sends 1099-NEC forms (for contractors) right at the deadline. If you made less than $600 with them last year, you won't get a 1099 at all, but you still have to report the income! Check your total earnings in the app to see if you're over that threshold.

•Wait, so even if we don't get a 1099 we still have to report the income? How would the IRS even know how much I made if there's no form?

•Yes, all income is legally required to be reported regardless of whether you receive a tax form for it. The IRS might not know immediately, but if you're ever audited and they discover unreported income, you could face penalties and interest. If you made under $600 with Instacart, just add up your earnings from the app and report the total on Schedule C along with any other self-employment income. It's better to be honest than risk problems down the road!

Last year my 1099 from Instacart had errors on it. Double check all the numbers when you get yours! They included some customer tips in the wrong box which messed up my tax calculations.

•What did you do when you found errors? Did you contact them to get a corrected form?

•I contacted their shopper support through the app and explained the specific errors. It took about two weeks, but they eventually issued a corrected 1099-NEC. If you find any errors, take screenshots of your weekly earnings summaries as evidence before contacting them. While waiting for the corrected form, I delayed filing my taxes. If you're up against the April deadline and still don't have a corrected form, you can either file for an extension or file with the information you have and then submit an amended return later when you get the correct form.
